How to Complete an Application with a Co-Applicant in SecureWebX
Two incomes, two signatures, one application. Here is how a joint credit application gets filled in so the finance office is not chasing half a file on Monday.
Step by Step
Send the link and set the expectation
Text or email the apply link, and say in the same message that this one is a joint application so both people should be together with their information ready. Two minutes of setting expectations saves the classic Saturday problem: the buyer finishes the form alone, then the co-applicant's employment and income have to be collected by phone that evening.
Let the primary applicant start
The first person works through personal, residence, employment and income. Nothing about a joint file changes those screens; the primary applicant is simply the person whose name the application opens with. An ITIN is accepted in place of a Social Security number, which matters more often than most floors expect.
Turn the co-applicant on
The application asks whether a second person is applying. Answer yes and a matching set of screens opens for them. A co-applicant is anyone applying jointly: a spouse, a parent, an adult child, a business partner. Nobody has to guess which box to use, because the form asks the question in plain language.
Fill in the co-applicant's own details
The second person enters their own name, residence, employment and income. When the two share an address, the same details carry across rather than being typed twice, and anything that differs gets typed once. Get the employment and income right here; an incomplete second income is the single most common reason a joint file goes back and forth.
Both people sign
Each party signs their own consent at the review step, with the e-signature and consent capture recording the exact version of the terms and disclosures each one agreed to. One person cannot sign for the other, which is how it should be, and the record shows it plainly if anyone asks later.
Open the joint record in the inbox
The submitted application appears in the inbox as one file. Use Open application from the list, or Open application profile for the full record, and you see the Applicant and the co-applicant side by side with their own employment, income and residence, plus the Application ID to quote when your finance office talks about it.
Ask for anything missing without starting over
If the second person left a field blank or the pay stub is unreadable, use Send notice to applicant from the application record rather than retyping the file yourself. The customer gets a message asking for the specific item, and what comes back attaches to the same application.
Before you start
You need an apply link and the SecureWebX console, both of which come with your LeadLocate account and open from the same login. The five step online credit application form supports a co-applicant out of the box, so nothing has to be switched on and no special link is required. If you want the joint path to ask for more, such as a second proof of income upload, that belongs in the customizer on the link.
Two practical notes before you send. Both people should have their employment history, income and identification handy, because a joint application asks the second person for the same depth of detail as the first. And a joint application is savable step by step, so a couple who start at the kitchen table and finish after one of them gets home do not lose the work.
Ask for a co-applicant when the deal needs one, and let the customer decide. A rep who leads with we will need your spouse on this before there is a reason has made the conversation about credit instead of about the car.
What you should see
On the customer's phone, a second set of screens that mirrors the first, clearly labeled so nobody fills in the wrong person's employer. On the review step, both parties are listed with their own consent to sign.
On your side, one application record holding both people. The inbox row carries the primary applicant's name and the Application ID, and the record inside holds both sets of residence, employment and income along with any documents either person uploaded. Everything the finance office does from there works on the joint file: stipulations with upload to fulfill, worksheets, a secure share to a lender of your choosing, and an adverse action notice generated from the record when one is needed.
The Credit application view is also what a manager opens months later, because archiving keeps records rather than removing them. The full audit log records who opened and shared the file, which is the sort of thing nobody thinks about until the day it matters.

Does a joint application need its own apply link?
No. Every apply link already supports a co-applicant, so your website link and your personal links all handle joint files. What a dedicated link buys you is extra questions on the joint path, and some stores want that.
In the customizer, a section you add can be set with Optional co-applicant with the same details, which mirrors that section onto the second person instead of making you build it twice. That is how a store adds, say, a landlord reference or a second proof of residence and has it apply to both parties. The helper text under each field, the part labeled Shown under the field to guide the applicant in the customizer, earns its keep here: the second person is often the one who has never filled in a credit application at your store before.
Everything else about building that link is on how to customize an apply link, and the Customize application screen is where those additions live. The wider picture of how a shared buyer record with a co-buyer works across the CRM is on co-buyer credit applications.
If it did not work
The co-applicant's section never appeared. The question was answered no, or skipped. The customer can reopen their application and answer yes; the form saves as they go, so nothing already entered is lost.
Only one signature is on the file. Each person signs their own consent. Ask the customer to finish the review step with the second person present, and the record will show both.
The second income is missing. Use Send notice to applicant and ask for the specific item. What comes back attaches to the same application instead of arriving as a text message photo on somebody's personal phone.
Two separate applications came in for the same deal. They filled in the form twice rather than using the joint path. Work the complete one, and send the link again with a line explaining that the application asks about a co-applicant partway through.
You need to send the same application to the customer again. Use Copy application URL from the record, or send the link from Public application URL on the apply link itself.

Getting the link into the customer's hands is on how to send an apply link by text. What the finance office does with the file once it arrives is on the credit application inbox page, and the paperwork trail around it is on credit application security.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the customer add a co-applicant?
The application asks whether a second person is applying. Answering yes opens a matching set of screens for the co-applicant's residence, employment and income.
Do both people have to sign?
Yes. Each party signs their own consent at the review step, and the record captures the version of the terms and disclosures each one agreed to.
Can the co-applicant finish later on a different phone?
The application saves step by step, so the customer can reopen the link and continue where they stopped rather than starting the form over.
Does a co-applicant need their own apply link?
No. Every apply link supports a co-applicant. A separate link is only worth making when the joint path should ask for extra documents or extra fields.
