The Online Credit Application Form, Step by Step

Five short screens on the customer's own phone, savable at every step, ending in a signature and a consent record your store can stand behind.

The SecureWebX online credit application form is a five step application a customer completes on their own phone: personal, residence, employment, income, review. It accepts an ITIN as well as an SSN, adds a co-applicant inside the same application, collects income, down payment and trade-in, and ends with an e-signature and consent capture against versioned terms. It is part of every LeadLocate platform plan.

What is the online credit application form?

It is the form a customer sees when they open one of your store's apply links. SecureWebX, the secure credit application system inside the LeadLocate platform, breaks the application into five steps: personal, residence, employment, income, review. Each step is a short screen, each one saves as the customer goes, and the whole thing ends with an e-signature and a consent record. That structure is deliberate. A single long form on a phone gets abandoned at the first scroll; five short ones get finished.

This page walks the form the way a customer walks it, screen by screen, so a finance manager or a GM knows exactly what a buyer is being asked before the store sends the first link. If you want the category view, what any online application should do for a dealer, read the online credit application software page. If you want to know how the link itself is created, customized and sent, that is the apply links page. This one is about the form.

One distinction up front: this is a full credit application with consent, not a prequalification widget. The online credit prequalification page explains the difference and why a soft pull is a separate thing.

Step one: personal information, with an SSN or an ITIN

The first screen asks who the applicant is: the identity details a lender needs to know who they are being asked to finance. The field that matters most to a lot of stores is identification, and here the form accepts an ITIN as well as a social security number. In markets where a good buyer with steady income has an ITIN rather than an SSN, a form that only accepts one of them turns that buyer away at the first field. This one does not, and the finance office gets a complete application it can work with the lenders that accept ITIN paper.

Everything entered here is saved as the customer moves to the next step. If the phone rings, the customer answers it, and the application is still there when they come back. That single detail is responsible for a large share of the applications that get finished rather than restarted.

Steps two and three: residence and employment

The residence step collects where the applicant lives, and the employment step collects who they work for and how. These are the screens a paper application usually gets wrong, because the customer skips a line, writes in the margin or leaves a date blank, and the finance manager has to call back to fill the holes. On the phone form each step is short enough to complete in one sitting, and the customer is guided through it in order.

Stores that need more than the standard questions on either step add them without touching the form's core. Each apply link can carry extra sections and custom fields placed in a chosen step, with help text under a field to explain what is being asked for. A special finance store might add a field for length of time at the current address on the residence step, or a document upload for a recent pay stub on the employment step. Those additions belong to that link, so the website link can stay lean while the special finance link asks for more.

Step four: income, down payment and the trade-in

The fourth step is where the deal takes shape. The applicant enters income, states a down payment, and completes the trade-in section for the vehicle they are bringing in. These three numbers are what the finance office needs to structure a first pass, and having them on the application means the desk starts from the customer's own figures instead of guessing.

This is also where the application connects to the rest of SecureWebX. A worked application can carry a worksheet: cash, finance and lease pencils at parity with the CRM desking engine, with a deal recap PDF for the customer. The down payment and trade-in the customer entered on step four are the starting point for that pencil. The desking tool page covers the engine; the point here is that the customer supplies the inputs on their own phone before anyone at the store types a number.

Step five: review, disclosures, e-signature and consent

The last step shows the applicant what they entered, presents the disclosures, and captures an e-signature and consent. The disclosures are the store's own: the standard credit authorization, any state specific disclosures the store has set up, and any disclosures added to that particular apply link, which the store can set to require acknowledgment before the applicant continues.

The consent is captured against versioned terms. When your disclosure language changes, SecureWebX keeps the exact version each customer agreed to and the moment they agreed. A year later, when someone asks what a specific applicant consented to, the answer is a record rather than a memory. The compliance disclosures and privacy notices page explains how a store manages that language per state and per company.

Once the customer signs and submits, the application appears in the store's SecureWebX inbox with a status, an assignee, an amount and notes. From there the finance office takes over.

Adding a co-applicant

A co-applicant is added inside the same application, with the same details as the primary applicant. There is no second link to send and no second form to reconcile. Two people buying one car submit one application with both of them on it, signed by both, and the finance office works one file. For stores that see a lot of joint applications, spouses, parents co-signing for a first car, partners buying a work truck, this is the difference between a clean file and two half files stapled together.

On the console side, the co-applicant travels with the application everywhere it goes: into Send to Lender shares, onto the worksheet, into the export to your lender or DMS in the format it expects.

What a normal day with the form looks like

A BDC agent confirms a Saturday appointment on Thursday and adds one line: here is our secure application if you would like to have financing ready when you arrive. The customer opens it Thursday night, gets through personal and residence, and stops. Friday morning the abandoned application shows up in the LeadLocate CRM for follow up, and the agent sends a short, human message. The customer finishes on the lunch break, signs, and submits. Saturday the finance manager has a complete application with a co-applicant, income, a down payment and a trade-in already on it, works a pencil, and the customer sees a payment inside the first half hour on the lot.

Nothing in that sequence required paper, a scanner, a fax machine or a clipboard, and every piece of it is recorded: when the link was opened, when each step was saved, what disclosures were shown, what version was signed, who at the store touched it afterward. The abandoned credit application follow up page covers the follow up half of that day in detail.

What the form replaces, and how to turn it on

It replaces the paper application on the clipboard, the fillable PDF on the website, and the third party online application a store rents from a separate vendor with its own invoice. The SecureWebX form is part of every LeadLocate plan, month to month, priced on the pricing page. There is no separate contract for the application system.

Turning it on takes no setup. When a LeadLocate account is created, the SecureWebX company and its users are created with it and the first apply link is live behind the SecureWebX button in the CRM dock. The standard five step form is complete on day one; customization with extra sections, custom fields, document uploads and disclosures is done from Customize application in the console whenever the store wants it. Bot protection sits on the public form, application data is encrypted at rest, and every upload is virus scanned. If the CRM is ever unavailable, the form keeps working: customers still open apply links, still complete applications, and the console still works them.

Pair the form with the two way texting inbox so the link goes out in the conversation the customer is already having, and with the credit application inbox so the finance office sees every submission in one place. The rest of the platform is on the all features page. The pre-recorded live demo shows the form being completed on a phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the five steps of the online credit application form?

Personal, residence, employment, income and review. Each step is a short screen that saves as the customer goes, and the review step presents the disclosures and captures an e-signature and consent against versioned terms.

Does the form accept an ITIN?

Yes. The identification field accepts an ITIN as well as a social security number, so a buyer with an ITIN completes the same application as everyone else and the finance office works it with the lenders that accept ITIN paper.

Can two people apply together?

Yes. A co-applicant is added inside the same application with the same details as the primary applicant. Both sign one application, and the co-applicant travels with the file into lender shares, worksheets and exports.

Can I add my own questions or a document upload to the form?

Yes. Each apply link can carry extra sections, custom fields and document uploads placed in a chosen step, plus its own disclosures. Additions belong to that link, so different links can ask different questions.

What happens if a customer stops halfway?

The application saves at every step, and the abandoned application feeds back to the LeadLocate CRM for follow up. When the customer reopens the link they continue where they stopped.

Is the online credit application form a prequalification?

No. It is a full credit application with disclosures, e-signature and consent, worked by your finance office and your own lenders. Prequalification and soft pulls are a different thing, covered on the prequalification page.
