Trackable Short Links With Click Stats in Every Text
Paste any link into a text from the CRM and it goes out short, fits the message, and reports back whether the customer tapped it and when.
What trackable short links do
A trackable short link replaces a long URL in a text message with a short one that fits the message and reports back when the customer taps it. That is the one sentence version. In LeadLocate CRM it is not a separate tool a salesperson has to remember to use. It is part of the text composer: write the message, paste the link, send, and the CRM shortens every URL in the body on the way out and starts counting clicks the moment the customer's phone buzzes.
The reason it matters at a dealership is that nearly every meaningful text a salesperson sends carries a link. The vehicle the customer asked about. The apply link from SecureWebX so they can finish the credit application on their phone. The booking link for a test drive. The deal page from DealTracker with the numbers the desk worked. A referral link. A long URL in a text is ugly, gets cut in half by some phones, and tells the salesperson nothing after it leaves. A short one is clean, whole, and answers the only question that matters an hour later: did they look.
This page is the product side view. The two way texting inbox page covers the conversation the link travels in, and the full features list shows where short links sit among the rest of the communications tools.
How a salesperson uses it on a normal day
A customer texts at ten in the morning asking whether the certified sedan she saw online is still available. The salesperson opens the thread in the SMS inbox, taps the vehicle button to insert the unit with its photo and price, and adds the listing link so she can see the full gallery. He sends. The link goes out short. At 10:40 the thread shows the link was clicked once, with the time. He knows she is looking, and he texts a follow up while the car is on her screen instead of guessing at three in the afternoon.
That afternoon a different customer says he wants to get financing sorted before Saturday. The salesperson pastes the store's SecureWebX apply link into the thread and sends it. The link goes out short. Two hours later it still says not clicked yet, which tells the salesperson something useful too: the customer has not started, so a gentle reminder tomorrow morning is the right move, not a call tonight asking how the application went. On Friday the thread shows the link clicked three times, and the application shows up in the SecureWebX inbox. Nobody had to ask.
The stats are on the thread itself, next to the message that carried the link, on desktop and on the phone. A manager scrolling through a rep's conversations sees which links were opened without opening a report, and a rep on the lot sees the same thing in the LeadLocate mobile app between customers.

Where short links live in the CRM
In the text composer, everywhere the composer is. On desktop, the SMS inbox under the Messaging menu shortens links in the reply box of an existing thread and in the new message box when a salesperson starts a conversation. On the phone, the SMS inbox and composer in the mobile app do the same thing with the same rules, so a link sent from the lot and a link sent from a desk look the same to the customer and count the same on the thread. Both routes post the whole message to one place that decides what counts as a link, which is why desktop and mobile never disagree.
Click stats appear on the message bubble in the thread. A message that carried a link shows whether the link has been clicked, how many times, and when. That is the whole reporting surface, and it is deliberately not a separate dashboard: the person who needs to know whether the customer looked is the person in the conversation, and the answer is on the conversation.
Links a salesperson sends repeatedly to the same customer, such as the same vehicle page sent twice in a week, reuse the same short link inside the store's account, so the click count on that link reflects that customer's interest in that page rather than resetting every time. The LeadLocate CRM product page walks through the Messaging menu if you want the wider map.
What gets shortened, and what the click tells you
Any URL in the body of a text. The ones that matter most at a store are the apply link from SecureWebX, the customer deal page from DealTracker, the booking link from the calendar, the vehicle page from the store's inventory site or brand offer page, the salesperson's personal website, and the referral link from the Referral Program. Each of those is a long URL that the composer turns into a short one, and each one is a link where knowing it was opened changes what the salesperson does next.
The click is a signal, not a verdict. A link clicked once means the customer looked; a link clicked several times means they came back, which usually means they are showing it to someone. A link not clicked after a day means the message may not have landed the way it was meant to, and a different message, or a call, is the next step. The what to expect from car sales leads page is honest about how customers behave, and click stats are one of the few ways to see that behaviour rather than guess at it.
The link is also short in the plain sense. A text with a long URL is a text the customer has to scroll to read, and a text that some phones split into two. A short link keeps the message to a line or two and keeps the link intact, which is a small thing that decides whether the customer taps at all.
What it replaces and what a blind link costs
The direct replacement is a separate link shortening account with its own login, where a salesperson would have to paste the long link, copy the short one, and paste it back into the text, every time, on every phone. Nobody does that from a lot. So the real replacement is the blind link: the long URL that goes out with no record of whether it was opened, followed by the phone call that starts with did you get a chance to look at that.
That call is the cost. A salesperson who does not know whether the customer looked either calls too early and annoys someone who has not had time, or calls too late and finds the customer bought somewhere else, or spends the first minute of every call asking a question the CRM could have answered. Across a BDC of five agents and a few hundred texts a day, that is a lot of first minutes.
Trackable short links are part of every LeadLocate plan, from CRM Only at $199 a month to the lead plans, with no per link charge. The pricing page lists what each plan includes.
The compliance angle: a link in a consented text, logged
A short link does not change the rules of texting, and the rules are simple: the customer agreed to be texted, the message identifies the store, and the customer can stop it. LeadLocate CRM handles delivery status on every bubble, opt outs, and the DNC Blacklist for numbers that should not be texted, and the short link rides inside that. The do not call scrub and blacklist page covers the consent side.
What the short link adds is a record. The communications log on every lead records the text and its time, and the click stats on the thread record that the customer opened the link and when. When a customer later disputes what they were sent or when they saw a price, the thread shows the message, the link and the click. That is the kind of ordinary record a manager wants on file, and it is kept without anyone doing anything beyond sending the text.
The link also protects the customer's experience. A short link from the store's CRM opens the page the salesperson intended, whether that is a secure apply link with its own protections or a deal page gated by a PIN, and the customer sees a clean, short message rather than a wall of characters that looks like the messages people are taught to distrust.
How to turn it on
There is nothing to turn on. Link shortening and click stats are part of the text composer in LeadLocate CRM from the day the account is created, on desktop and in the mobile app, for every user. A salesperson pastes a link and sends; the CRM does the rest. The first time a store notices it is usually when a manager sees the click count on a thread and asks where it came from.
If a store wants to see it before signing up, the pre-recorded live demo shows a text going out with a link and the click stats appearing on the thread. And if a store has a particular link it wants to track differently, our team puts it in production for your dealership on request.
What to pair trackable short links with
Pair them with the SecureWebX apply link, because knowing a customer opened the application is the difference between a reminder and a nag. Pair them with DealTracker deal pages, where a click means the customer is looking at the numbers right now and a call in the next ten minutes is worth more than one tomorrow. Pair them with the calendar booking link so a salesperson knows the customer saw the available times, and with the vehicle insert button in the same composer, which attaches the unit's photo and price while the short link carries the customer to the full listing.
Pair them with Bulk Texting and Text Automation, where a link in a message to a list or in a drip step is shortened the same way and the clicks tell a manager which message earned attention. And pair them with the file library's secure file sharing, which has its own tracking for documents a store sends, so a brochure or a buyer's order can be followed the same way a vehicle page can. Everything here is part of the same subscription, which is why the click stats are on the thread and not in a separate product.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tracking link?
A link that records when it is opened. In LeadLocate CRM, every URL in a text is shortened as the message is sent and the thread shows whether the customer clicked it, how many times and when.
How do I send a tracking link from the CRM?
Paste the link into the text composer, on desktop or in the mobile app, and send. The CRM shortens every URL in the body on the way out. There is no separate tool to open and nothing to copy back.
Where do I see the click stats?
On the message bubble in the thread that carried the link. It shows not clicked yet, clicked once, or clicked a number of times, with the time, on desktop and on the phone.
Which links are worth tracking at a dealership?
The SecureWebX apply link, DealTracker deal pages, calendar booking links, vehicle pages, personal salesperson websites and referral links. Each is a link where knowing it was opened changes what the salesperson does next.
Do short links work in bulk texts and automated texts?
Yes. Links in Bulk Texting sends and Text Automation steps are shortened the same way, so a manager can see which message in a sequence earned the clicks.
Is there a charge per link?
No. Trackable short links are part of every LeadLocate plan, from CRM Only up, with no per link charge.
