How to Validate a Phone Number in LeadLocate
Check a list before the BDC dials it. Dead numbers and do not call flags show up before anyone picks up a phone.
Validating a phone number in LeadLocate CRM means running it through the Phone Validator under Marketing Tools on the dock, which tells you whether the number is live, what kind of line it is, and whether it carries a do not call flag. You paste a list or upload a file, name it, press Validate Numbers and read the results. The result also shows as a dot on the lead.
Step by Step
Open the Phone Validator
Click Marketing Tools on the dock, then Phone Validator, the tile that reads weed out dead numbers. The page is titled Phone Number Lookup.
Name the list
Type a List Name you will recognize a month from now, such as the event and the date range. The name is what the history table shows.
Add the numbers
Paste them into Phone Numbers to Lookup: where it says Please enter one number per line, ten digit US numbers with no punctuation needed, or upload a CSV File exported from a spreadsheet. One number on its own works the same way as six hundred.
Run the check
Press Validate Numbers. A short list returns in seconds; a long one takes a little longer and you can leave the page.
Read the results
The Results view lists every number with a Do Not Call column and a scrubbed marker, and the Phone Number Lookup Results report adds the Line Type and Carrier for each. A number flagged Do Not Call comes off the call list; a landline comes off the text list.
Keep the record
Scroll to Phone Lookup History:. The run is a row with the list name, Pulled By, Total Number and a Report Link that reopens the report later. On the lead itself, the number now carries a validity dot next to it.
Before you start
You need a login to LeadLocate CRM with a role that can see the dock. In practice a manager with a list runs the tool, and a salesperson reads the validity dot it leaves on the lead. Lookups use credits, and the balance is managed by the Master Administrator from My LeadLocate; check it before a large run. Have the numbers in one place first. If the list is a spreadsheet from outside the CRM, export it as a file with the numbers in one column, or bring it in with contact import so the validator can run on the imported records and the dots land on the leads. The Phone Validator feature page explains what each column means and where the results are reused.
What you should see
When the run finishes, the Results view shows every number on the list with its flags: Do Not Call for the numbers the store should not contact, and a scrubbed marker showing the number has been through the check. A number that has not been run shows as not checked, which is how a list that was added to after the run announces itself. The report behind Report Link adds Line Type, mobile or landline, and the Carrier, which is what decides whether a number belongs on a text list or a call list. Back on each lead, the phone number carries a validity dot, so the salesperson working the lead sees the outcome of a check a manager ran, without opening the tool. The history row is the store's record that the list was checked, when, by whom and how many numbers it held.

If it did not work
Every number came back not checked. The run did not start. Usually the account is out of lookup credits; the Master Administrator adds them from My LeadLocate and you run the list again with the same List Name.
Some numbers were skipped. They were not ten digit US numbers. A leading 1, a missing area code or an extension on the end stops that row. Fix the format in the source and paste again.
A number I know is good shows Do Not Call. The flag means the number is on a do not call list, not that it is dead. It may still be a customer who asked your store to call; the DNC Blacklist page is where the store records its own exceptions and its own blocks, and a customer who asks in writing to be called is a different matter from a stranger on a list. When in doubt, leave the flag alone.
For a run that stays stuck, the support team can see it from the store's side.
Related tasks
A validated list is the list you send from bulk texting and from Voicemail Drops in the same menu, and the one the BDC dials from the VoIP softphone. The lead side of do not call protection is the DNC Blacklist, which holds the store's own list and runs a live do not call lookup on numbers as they arrive. Checking the same list on the email side is how to validate an email address, two tiles over. Every guide in the Help Center is written the way this one is.
Tips from the floor
Validate the night before a call session, not the morning of, so the BDC starts on a clean list rather than waiting on a run. Name lists by event and date so the history table reads like a calendar. And treat the landline column as a gift: a landline is a number to call, not text, and a BDC that knows which is which wastes no messages and no minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check one number without a list?
Yes. Paste the single number into the same field, name the run and press Validate Numbers. The lead's validity dot updates the same way.
What does the Do Not Call flag mean?
The number appears on a do not call list and the store should not contact it without a reason it can document. The flag is about the number, not about whether the line is live.
Does validation cost anything?
Lookups use credits managed by the Master Administrator from My LeadLocate. The tool itself is part of every LeadLocate plan.
Will the result show on the lead?
Yes. Validity shows as a dot next to the phone number on the lead record, so a salesperson sees it without opening the tool.
Prefer to be shown?
Schedule a live training session and a specialist runs the first list with your team on your own account.
