How to Import Inventory from Your Website in Inventory Link

No feed, no problem. Inventory Link reads the vehicles already published on your own dealership website, with your permission, and turns them into inventory your team can text, list and advertise.

Put the store's site on your profile under Website and point us at the page that lists your vehicles. Inventory Link recognizes the platform the site is built on and imports the units with their photos, prices and mileage. Check the first import against the lot, fill any gaps, and the same inventory is then live in the CRM, your texts and the widget.

Step by Step

  1. Find the page that lists your vehicles

Open your dealership website and go to the inventory results page, the one a shopper lands on after clicking used cars. Copy that address. If new and used live on separate pages, copy both. This is the page the import reads, so it should show every unit the store wants published.

  2. Put the site on your Inventory Link profile

In the portal, open your profile and enter the store site under Website. Use the address customers type, including the www if that is how it resolves. Then tell us the inventory page from step one so the import starts in the right place.

  3. Let the import run and confirm the platform was recognized

Dealer websites are built on a couple of dozen common platforms, and Inventory Link knows them. The first pass brings back the vehicle list with photos, prices, mileage and whatever detail the site publishes, and the VIN fills in build data the site left out. Nothing is copied from anywhere but your own site, with your permission.

  4. Check the first import against your lot

Open the inventory list and read the first page the way a shopper would. Count against what is on the ground this morning. Any unit you want to compare side by side opens on the source page with Open on your website, which is the fastest way to settle whether a bad price came from the import or from the site.

  5. Fill the gaps

Fix what the website never published. A missing stock number gets an override so it matches the window label. A unit with no photographs gets stock imagery until your photographer catches up. A dealer trade that is not on the site yet gets added by hand in about a minute.

  6. Publish it back where your team sells

Now use it. Vehicles appear in the CRM inventory menu and on the phone app, the vehicle insert button drops one into any text or email, and Add it to your website gives you a widget to put the same inventory back on the site in a better looking grid. On a lead form, Show matching vehicles from your inventory answers a shopper with real units.

Before you start

You need an Inventory Link login, the address of your dealership website, and the authority to say yes to reading it. That last part is the whole legal question: this is your store's own inventory, published by your store, imported with your permission into your own account.

Also decide what belongs in the published list. Wholesale units you never advertise, vehicles in transit, and anything with a price the store is still arguing about should either stay off the website or be flagged once they land. That decision is easier to make now than to unwind after the inventory is live on a store inventory site and in a hundred text messages.

Which websites does this work with?

The common ones, and that covers most single point stores and most groups. Inventory Link recognizes more than two dozen of the platforms dealer websites are built on and reads the vehicle listings the way a shopper's browser sees them. You do not need a developer, a plugin, or a change to the site.

A store that also has a data feed can use both: the feed as the source of truth and the site for anything the feed leaves out. Inventory feeds covers that path, and it is worth reading if a feed already exists somewhere in the building. A website platform we have not seen before is available on request, and our team puts it in production for your dealership.

What you should see

An inventory list in the portal that matches the vehicles on your site, each one carrying its photos, price, mileage and build data. Units that come off the website come off the list, and new arrivals published to the site show up here without anyone retyping them.

From there the inventory spreads to the places that sell. Salespeople insert a vehicle into a message from the composer, as send vehicles by text describes. The widget publishes the same units on any page you drop it into. Brand pages and lead forms answer shoppers with units your store actually has, and the vehicle finder locates the one a customer is describing in their own words.

If it did not work

The count is short. Your site is paging the results and the import read the first page, or part of the inventory lives on a second page you did not send. Give us the other addresses and the list fills in.

Photos are missing. Some sites publish thumbnails a shopper can see but nothing larger. Stock imagery keeps those units presentable, and stock photos for listings explains how a vehicle still looks like a listing while it waits for your photographer.

A price looks wrong. Open the unit on the source page and compare. If the site is right and the list is not, tell us; if the site itself is carrying a stale price, fix it there and the next import follows.

Details are thin across the board. That is a website that publishes very little per vehicle. VIN decode fills in the build, and anything still missing is quicker to correct on a handful of units by hand than to argue about with a website provider.

Related tasks

If a feed does arrive later, connecting it is its own short guide and the screens your team uses do not change. Adding a single vehicle by hand covers the dealer trade, the fresh trade in and the unit that sold before it ever reached the website.

The LeadLocate Help Center has both, plus the merchandising guides. When the list is right, the embeddable inventory widget is the fastest win: the same vehicles, in a grid that looks current, on the website you already own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a data feed to get my inventory into LeadLocate?

No. Inventory Link imports the vehicles published on your own dealership website, with your permission. A feed and DMS access are not required to run the platform.

Will this work with my website provider?

More than two dozen of the platforms dealer sites are built on are recognized, which covers most stores. A platform we have not seen is available on request, and our team puts it in production for your dealership.

How often does the import run?

It keeps pace with your site, so vehicles you publish appear and vehicles you take down disappear. Nobody in the store retypes a unit to keep the two in step.

What about vehicles that are not on the website yet?

Add them by hand. It takes about a minute with the VIN, and that unit behaves like every other one in texts, on lead forms and in the widget.

Your website is already your inventory feed

Inventory Link reads the vehicles you publish, fills in what is missing from the VIN, and puts them in the CRM, your texts, your lead forms and a widget for your own site. See it in the pre-recorded demo.
