How to Embed the Inventory Widget in Inventory Link

One line of HTML puts your live inventory on the website you already run, with a request sheet under every vehicle. Here is how to create the widget and get the tag onto the page.

You embed the inventory widget from Builder in the Inventory Link dealer portal. Create a widget, which gets its own key, copy the embed code, and paste that one script tag into the page of your website where the vehicles should appear. The widget renders your live inventory there, with a request sheet under every unit.

Step by Step

  1. Confirm the inventory is in the portal

Open the inventory list in the dealer portal before you do anything else. The widget renders whatever is on those records, so if the list is thin, connect the feed or run the website import first. Every unit should have its decoded build, a price and at least one photo.

  2. Open Builder and create the widget

Choose Builder in the portal and create a widget. The portal issues it a key of its own, which is what tells the tag whose inventory to render. Make a separate widget for each place you plan to put one so you can tell later which page produced which lead.

  3. Decide what the block shows

Turn on Show matching vehicles from your inventory so the block fills with the units you actually have rather than a static panel, and set Where the leads go with the addresses in Email the lead to so the right people hear about a request the moment it lands.

  4. Copy the embed code

Open the Add it to your website panel and copy the Embed code. It is one script tag carrying the widget key. Copy the whole thing, including the closing tag, and do not retype it by hand.

  5. Paste it into your website

Open the page where you want the inventory to appear in your own site editor and paste the tag into an HTML or embed block, not a rich text field, because rich text editors tend to strip scripts. Save the page and publish it the way your vendor site normally publishes.

  6. Load the page and send yourself a test request

Open the page on a phone. The vehicles should render inside your own design. Tap a unit, let the request sheet rise from the bottom, fill it in and send it, then check that the request is in the portal under Requests and in the CRM as a lead with that vehicle attached.

Before you start

You need three things: vehicles in Inventory Link, a sign in to the dealer portal, and the ability to paste a line of HTML into the page where you want the cars to appear. That last one is usually a page editor your web vendor gave you, or a content block on the template. If somebody else edits the website for your store, send them the tag and tell them which page it belongs on.

Get the inventory in first, because a widget with nothing behind it renders an empty list. Connect a provider feed under Feeds, or let the platform read the vehicles from your own dealership website, which the import inventory from your website page covers and which recognizes twenty eight website platforms. A broker with no lot switches on auto broker inventory mode. An inventory feed and DMS access are not required.

The portal opens from the My Inventory button on the dock at the bottom of LeadLocate CRM with single sign on. Builder is where widgets are made, next to the inventory website builder.

What you should see on the page

Your vehicles rendered inside your own page, with your header, your navigation and your design around them. Each unit shows the decoded year, make, model and trim, the mileage, the price and the photos on the record, because the widget reads the same inventory the portal holds rather than a copy somebody uploaded in March.

Tap a vehicle and a request sheet rises from the bottom of the screen on a phone rather than dropping a form into the middle of the page. The shopper asks about that unit, sends it, and the request arrives in the portal under Requests and in the CRM as a lead with the vehicle attached. The widget also carries a Visit our website link, so a shopper who found it on a salesperson page or a campaign page can get back to your store.

New arrivals show up without anyone touching the page again. Add a trade in the portal this afternoon and it is in the widget on the website this afternoon, photos and all.

Where do the leads from the widget land?

Everywhere it should, and only once. A request from the widget lands in the dealer portal under Requests and in LeadLocate CRM as a lead carrying the vehicle the shopper was looking at, and the addresses you put in Email the lead to get told. Your team works it on the lead record, replies by text with the same unit attached, and the whole conversation stays in one place.

That is the part stores usually get wrong with a website form. A generic contact form arrives as an email with no vehicle on it, somebody re-keys it into the CRM, and the reply asks the customer which car they meant. The widget request already knows. Because every widget you create has its own key, you can tell which page produced which lead: one key on the main site, another on a campaign page, another on a salesperson page.

If it did not work

Nothing rendered where you pasted the tag. The page editor stripped the script. Most vendor editors have a separate HTML or embed block for exactly this; move the tag into that block rather than the rich text area and reload.

The widget renders but shows no vehicles. There is no inventory behind it yet, or the widget is filtered to something you do not stock. Open the inventory list in the portal and confirm the units are there, then check that Show matching vehicles from your inventory is on for the block you are rendering.

Prices look wrong. They are the prices on the inventory record, so fix them once in the portal and every place the widget renders catches up. That is the reason to run one inventory instead of three.

Requests are coming in but nobody is being told. Check Where the leads go and the addresses in Email the lead to, then check the notification settings in the CRM. The lead is on its record either way.

You want the same inventory on a second site. Make a second widget. Each one gets its own key and its own tag, so a campaign page, a salesperson page and the main site can all run their own block from the same inventory.

Related tasks

The product page for this feature is embeddable inventory widget, and it covers what the widget replaces and what inventory display costs elsewhere. If you would rather have a site of your own than a block on someone else's, the inventory website builder publishes one from the same inventory, and the two work fine side by side.

Once the widget is live, the things that make it earn money are covered elsewhere in the LeadLocate Help Center: the vehicle finder for the shopper who does not see what they want, the Schedule a Visit request for the one who does, and vehicle photos, because the listing a shopper stops on is the one with real pictures. A widget layout your site needs that the standard block does not cover is available on request, and our team puts it in production for your dealership.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the widget work on any website?

It works anywhere you can paste a line of HTML, which covers the common dealer website platforms and most general site builders. The page stays in your web vendor editor with your design around it; only the inventory block comes from Inventory Link.

Can I run more than one widget?

Yes. Each widget has its own key and its own tag, so the main site, a campaign page and a salesperson page can each carry a block from the same inventory and you can tell which one a lead came from.

How often does the widget update?

It reads the inventory record, so a unit added or repriced in the portal shows the change on the next page load. There is nothing to re-upload and no export to schedule.

What happens when a shopper fills in the request sheet?

The request arrives in the dealer portal under Requests and in LeadLocate CRM as a lead with the vehicle attached, and the addresses you listed are emailed. Your team replies from the lead record.
