Selly Automotive Alternative for Car Dealerships
An honest comparison from a vendor with an obvious bias, written so you can check every claim we make about ourselves.
Name the reason before you shop
Almost nobody searches for a CRM alternative out of curiosity. Something specific went wrong, and naming it first saves you from buying the wrong fix. In our experience the reasons sort into four groups, and only three of them are actually solved by changing vendors.
You are buying leads and CRM from different companies. One invoice for lead generation, another for the software, and your own time spent making them talk to each other. Consolidating is a legitimate reason to move.
The communication tools are thinner than you need. Texting exists but calling lives somewhere else, or there is no recording, or campaigns mean exporting a list to another tool. Real reason.
You have outgrown the configuration. More rooftops, more users, more permission complexity than the system was built around. Real reason.
Leads are not being worked. Follow up dies after two touches, response times run into hours, and the pipeline is full of records nobody has touched in a month. Changing CRM will not fix this. A new system makes the problem more visible, which genuinely helps, but the repair is management attention. Stores that switch vendors to solve a discipline problem are usually shopping again eighteen months later.
Be honest about which of the four you are in before you sit through anything.
What Selly Automotive is built for
Selly Automotive is an automotive CRM aimed squarely at independent and buy here pay here dealerships, a segment that has historically been served badly by systems designed for franchise stores. Its reputation is built on being approachable: a mobile app your salespeople will actually open, texting in the flow of work, lead management that does not require an administrator, and a price point independents can live with.
That focus is a real strength. A great deal of dealership software is enterprise software with the enterprise removed, and it shows. A product designed from the start for a twenty car a month store behaves differently from one that was scaled down to fit.
If Selly is working for you, the honest advice is to stay. Switching CRM is expensive in ways the invoice does not show, and a system your team actually uses beats a more capable one they avoid, every single time.
Features, integrations, packaging and pricing change, and we do not track another vendor's roadmap. Verify anything that will drive your decision directly with Selly rather than trusting any comparison page, including this one.
What LeadLocate is built for
We started from the other end. LeadLocate is a lead generation platform first, with a full CRM built around it, sold to dealerships and to individual salespeople on month to month terms.
The lead side delivers exclusive local leads. You define a territory around your store, and leads inside that zone come to you rather than being resold to three other dealerships. There are two families. Inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, and opt in seller leads: local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling their car. Nothing is scored, filtered or ranked. Every submitted lead in your zone is delivered exclusively, and problems are handled through post delivery replacement review rather than a quality promise made up front. Leads are a mix of shoppers looking at a specific vehicle and shoppers still deciding, and we will not pretend to know the ratio in your market.
The CRM side is deliberately wide: lead inbox and distribution rules, SMS and MMS with RCS and automatic SMS fallback, a click to call VoIP softphone, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop with recipient lists, an email inbox, composer and archive, bulk email, automations, follow up processes and drip campaigns, appointments and reminders, DealTracker desking across loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix, lead pages, personal salesperson websites, a free live chat widget, document AI for VIN scanning, and three separate reporting modules.
Two tools dealers rarely expect: a built in email validator and phone validator, so you can clean a list before a campaign instead of burning your sending reputation to find out it was dirty.

Choose Selly if
Real reasons to stay where you are. We would rather say this now than watch you switch and switch back.
- Your team has adopted it. Adoption is the hardest thing to buy and the easiest thing to break, and a system people open every morning is worth more than a longer feature list.
- You already have lead sources you are happy with and do not want a vendor supplying leads.
- Your integrations, particularly on the buy here pay here side around payment and collections systems, are wired in and working.
- Your monthly cost is low and your operation is small enough that the extra surface area we bring would sit unused.
- You are mid season, short staffed, or in the middle of another change. Timing sinks more CRM migrations than product fit does.
Choose LeadLocate if
The case for moving is strongest when several of these are true together rather than one in isolation.
- You want leads and CRM on one bill from one vendor instead of stitching two together and owning the seam.
- You want exclusive local leads rather than shared internet leads that three stores are calling within the same minute.
- You want the acquisition side too. Opt in seller leads are how stores buy cars from local owners without living at the auction. The seller leads page explains the mechanics.
- You want calling, recording, transcription, voicemail drop and IVR inside the same system as your texting, rather than a phone vendor bolted alongside.
- You want desking in the CRM, including lease, semimonthly payment frequency, trade credit caps and a fifty state tax matrix, so multi state deals stop being a spreadsheet.
- You want individual salespeople able to run on the platform, with their own inventory site and lead pages, not just the store.
- You do not have, or do not want to depend on, an inventory feed or an integration with the dealer management system you run. Neither is required.
If your store is independent or buy here pay here, the pages on CRM for independent dealerships and CRM for buy here pay here dealers go deeper than this one can.
What a switch actually costs beyond the invoice
The subscription difference is almost always the smallest number in a CRM change. The expensive parts are the ones nobody quotes you.
- Data. Getting customer records, notes and communication history out in a usable format. Settle this before you give notice, and ask specifically whether text and call history come with it or only contact fields.
- Overlap. Budget for paying two vendors for a few weeks. Cutting over with no overlap is the most reliable way to lose leads during a transition.
- Adoption. The real cost. Expect a productivity dip for two to four weeks while people relearn habits. That is management attention, not training hours.
- Integrations. Every third party currently posting into your CRM has to be repointed: website forms, marketplaces, chat, phone, third party lead providers. Build that list before you start rather than discovering it mid cutover.
- Reporting continuity. Your historical numbers stay behind unless you export them. Pull the reports you will want to compare against next year while you still have access.
Our CRM migration checklist works through this in order and is written to be used with any vendor, not only us.
Pilot instead of gambling, and questions for both of us
You do not have to bet the store to find out. Run one team, or one lead source, on the new platform for three or four weeks while everything else stays put. Measure three numbers against your current system over the same period: time to first response, number of follow up touches before a lead goes cold, and appointments set. Those three tell you more than any demo, and they are hard to argue with internally.
Month to month pricing exists so that this is possible. A vendor requiring a multi year commitment before you can evaluate is asking you to carry a risk they will not.
Then take these questions into every demo, ours included. What is the total monthly cost with every module I actually need, and what is it at renewal. What is the contract length and the cancellation process. Exactly what can I export if I leave, in what format, and does it include communication history. Who owns the customer data. What does support look like at six on a Saturday evening. If leads are included, are they exclusive to my store, how is my territory defined, and what happens when a lead is bad. Write the answers down. Vendors comfortable being pinned down in writing tend to be the ones still worth having in year three. Ours are answered live in the demo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is LeadLocate a direct replacement for Selly Automotive?
For lead management, texting, follow up and reporting it covers the same ground and adds calling, desking and lead generation. Verify Selly's current feature set with the vendor, since we do not track another company's roadmap.
Does LeadLocate include leads or just software?
Both are available. CRM Only starts at $199 a month if you already have lead sources. Plans that include exclusive local leads start at $799, and the Buyers and Sellers Hybrid Plan starts at $1,599.
Are the leads exclusive to my store?
Yes. You define a territory and leads submitted inside that zone are delivered to you and not resold to other dealerships. Nothing is filtered or scored, and lead problems go through post delivery replacement review.
Do we need a DMS integration or an inventory feed?
No. Neither is required to operate, which is why individual salespeople and brokers run on the platform. If you do have a feed, My Inventory Link can ingest it and publish salesperson inventory sites from it.
Can we run both systems during the transition?
Yes, and we recommend it. A few weeks of overlap costs one extra invoice and prevents the lead loss that makes rip and replace cutovers go badly.
Will switching improve our close rate?
We cannot guarantee close rates, lead counts or sales results, and no vendor honestly can. What a pilot will tell you is whether response times and follow up depth improve, which are the inputs you actually control.
Pilot it on one team before you commit anything
We will map a territory around your store, run the CRM on real lead flow, and give you a straight number. Month to month, so staying is your decision every month.
