Selly Automotive vs LeadLocate
Two systems aimed at independent dealers from opposite directions. Here is how to tell which direction your store is actually facing.
Start with what problem you are actually shopping for
Comparison pages usually open with a feature grid. That is backwards, because two stores can look identical on paper and need opposite things. Before you compare anything, answer one question honestly: is your problem that leads are not being worked, or that there are not enough leads?
If your phone rings, your marketplace accounts produce, and your walk in traffic is steady, but follow up dies after the second touch and nobody can tell you what happened to last month's ups, you have a workflow problem. A CRM fixes workflow problems. Buying leads on top of a broken process just gives you more things to not follow up on.
If your process is fine but the top of the funnel is thin, and your team is spending mornings hunting rather than selling, you have a supply problem. A better CRM does not create demand. You need a source, and then a place to put it.
Most stores have some of both, which is fair. But the balance decides which of these two systems is the better fit, and it decides it more than any feature checkbox does. Our page on CRM for independent car dealerships works through that diagnosis in more detail.
What Selly Automotive is built for
Selly Automotive is an automotive CRM aimed squarely at independent dealers, including buy here pay here operations. It is known in that segment for being approachable rather than enterprise heavy: lead management, texting, follow up tracking and a mobile experience for salespeople who do most of their work standing on a lot rather than sitting at a desk.
That focus is a genuine strength and worth respecting. Software written for a fifteen car a month independent store looks different from software written for a franchise group, and a lot of independents have been burned by buying the second kind. A system your people will actually open beats a system with more modules that sits unused, every single time.
Selly also positions around integrations with the marketplaces and lead sources independents typically already pay for, which fits a store that has its own demand and needs somewhere organized to put it.
We are not going to publish their pricing, packaging or a feature by feature audit here, because vendors change all three and a stale comparison written by a competitor is worth nothing to you. Verify current capability, pricing and contract terms directly with Selly Automotive. Anything on this page, ours included, should be confirmed in a live demo before it drives a decision.
What LeadLocate is built for
LeadLocate came at the same store from the other side. It began as a lead generation platform and grew a full CRM around it, and that origin still shapes the product.
The lead side delivers exclusive local leads inside a territory you define around your store. Leads inside that zone come to you and are not resold to three other dealerships down the road. There are two families. Inbound buyer leads come from in market shoppers, a mix of VIN specific inquiries on real vehicles and open shoppers describing what they want. Seller leads come from local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling their car, which for a used store short on inventory is often the more valuable half.
Nothing is filtered or scored. We ask pre-screening questions at capture and deliver every submitted lead in your zone, exclusively, and problems are handled by post delivery replacement review rather than by a quality promise made up front. We would rather be honest about that than sell you a grading system that does not exist.
The CRM around it covers lead management with distribution rules, SMS and MMS with RCS and SMS fallback, a click to call VoIP softphone, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop, email with a real inbox and composer, bulk email, automations and follow up processes, drips, appointments and reminders, desking for loan and lease, deal jackets, lead pages, personal salesperson websites and three layers of reporting.

Choose Selly Automotive if
There are real reasons to stay where you are, and we would rather say them than watch a store switch and switch back six months later.
- Your lead flow is already sufficient and your gap is purely organization and follow up discipline.
- Your team is on the system, using it daily, and adoption was hard won. Adoption is the most expensive thing you own and it does not transfer.
- Your buy here pay here workflow, in house collections process or specific marketplace integrations are wired the way you need them and are producing.
- You want a focused CRM and nothing more, and you have no interest in a vendor also supplying leads.
- Your budget is tight enough that the deciding factor is the monthly subscription line rather than what the platform can source.
If that describes your store, the honest answer is that switching CRM will cost you more in disruption than you will gain in features. Fix the process instead and revisit in a year.
Choose LeadLocate if
The case for moving is strongest when several of these are true at once rather than just one.
- You are buying leads from one vendor and CRM from another, and paying with your own time to make them talk to each other.
- You want leads that are exclusive to your store inside a territory you pick, rather than shared inquiries three stores are calling at the same minute.
- You cannot find used inventory at auction money and want an inbound acquisition channel from local owners asking to be contacted.
- You want a real voice stack, not just texting: IVR, call routing, a softphone, recording with transcription so a manager can read a twelve minute call in thirty seconds.
- You need desking that gets the tax right in every state you deliver to, including lease.
- Your salespeople want to run their own follow up and their own personal site, not just live inside the store's pipeline.
The seller side is the piece most stores have never seen. Car seller leads explains how those opt in offer requests arrive and how the territory works.
What a CRM switch actually costs, beyond the invoice
The subscription difference is almost always the smallest number in a CRM change. The costs that hurt are the ones that never appear in a proposal.
- Data. Establish what you can export before you give notice, not after. Ask specifically whether communication history comes with the customer records or whether you get names and phone numbers only.
- Overlap. Budget for paying two vendors for a few weeks. Stores that cut over with zero overlap are the stores that lose leads during the change.
- Adoption. Expect a productivity dip for two to four weeks while habits reset. This is a management cost, not a training cost, and it is the one that decides whether the switch works.
- Repointing. Every source that currently posts into your CRM has to be aimed somewhere new: website forms, marketplace lead feeds, chat, phone. Build that list before you start.
- Reporting continuity. Pull the historical reports you will want to compare against next year while you still have access to them.
The CRM migration checklist runs through this in order and is written to be used with any vendor, not just us.
A safer way to decide than a rip and replace
You do not have to bet the store to find out which system fits. Pilot instead of switching.
Run one team, or one defined slice of lead flow, on the new platform for three to four weeks while everything else stays exactly where it is. Then compare three numbers against the same period on your current system: time to first response, number of follow up touches before the trail goes cold, and appointments set that showed.
Those three tell you more than any demo, because they measure what your people do rather than what the software could do. Month to month pricing exists so this is possible. A vendor that requires a long commitment before you can evaluate is asking you to carry a risk they will not carry themselves.
Take the same questions into both demos. What is the total monthly cost with everything I actually need, and what is it at renewal? What is the cancellation process? Exactly what can I export, in what format, and does it include message history? Who owns the customer data? If leads are included, are they exclusive, how is my territory drawn, and what happens when a lead is bad? Write the answers down. We cannot guarantee an outcome from any of this, but the vendor who answers plainly in writing is usually the one still worth having in year three.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is LeadLocate a direct replacement for Selly Automotive?
For lead management, texting, follow up and reporting, it covers the same ground and adds a voice stack, desking and credit applications. Whether it replaces your specific workflow depends on which integrations you rely on, so confirm those in a demo before committing.
Does LeadLocate include leads or just the software?
Both are available. CRM Only starts at $199 a month if you already have sources you are happy with. Plans that include exclusive local leads start at $799 a month, with seller focused and hybrid plans above that.
Are the leads shared with other dealerships?
No. You define a territory around your store and leads inside it are delivered to you exclusively. Nothing is filtered or scored. Every submitted lead in the zone is delivered, and problems are handled by post delivery replacement review.
Do we need a DMS integration or an inventory feed?
Neither is required to operate. If you do have a feed, Inventory Link can ingest it and advertise your actual vehicles. If you do not, or cannot get access to it, the rest of the platform runs normally.
Can we run both systems during the transition?
Yes, and we recommend it. A few weeks of overlap is the cheapest insurance against losing leads during a cutover, and it lets you compare response times on live traffic rather than in theory.
Which is better for a buy here pay here store?
It depends on whether your gap is collections and in house workflow or lead supply. If your BHPH process is already wired into your current system and working, that is a strong reason to stay. If you are short on customers and inventory, the lead and acquisition side is what changes the month.
Pilot one team before you move anything
We will map a territory around your store, run live lead flow through the CRM, and give you a straight number. Month to month, so staying is your call every month.
