AutoAlert vs LeadLocate: Automotive CRM Comparison

These two products solve opposite problems, and a lot of stores buy the wrong one for what is actually going wrong.

AutoAlert is an equity mining and customer engagement platform that works the owner base already in your systems. LeadLocate is a lead generation platform with a full CRM built in, delivering exclusive local buyer and seller leads month to month. If your database is large and underworked, they answer different questions and can coexist.

Start by naming which problem you have

Before comparing anything, decide which of two sentences describes your store this quarter, because they lead to different purchases.

The first is we already know thousands of people and we are not talking to them. You have years of sold customers, a service drive that sees the same people repeatedly, and no reliable way to know which of them are in a position to trade right now. That is an owner base problem.

The second is we do not have enough people to talk to. Your database is thin, or it is worked hard already, and the constraint is fresh opportunity in your market rather than better sorting of what you have. That is a demand problem.

AutoAlert is built for the first sentence. LeadLocate is built for the second, with the CRM to work whatever comes in. Buying the wrong one produces the same outcome in both directions: a tool that technically works and quietly gets abandoned in month five because it was never aimed at the thing that was broken.

What AutoAlert is built for

AutoAlert is an established automotive technology company known for equity mining and customer engagement, used widely by franchise dealerships and larger groups. The core idea is that your existing customer and deal records already contain the next sale, and that a store cannot find it manually. Software reads the customer base and surfaces the people whose situation has changed: equity position, payment, term remaining, service history, mileage against contract.

That depth depends on connection. Products in this category generally read from the dealer management system you run, the CRM and service records, so integration quality and data hygiene are central to what you get out of it. If those connections are strong and your owner base is large, the output can be very good.

Packaging, modules and pricing in this category change regularly, and vendors reposition. Verify current capability, integration requirements, contract terms and price directly with the vendor rather than relying on any comparison page, including this one. We are not going to invent numbers about a competitor to make ourselves look better.

What LeadLocate is built for

LeadLocate started from the other direction. It is a lead generation platform with a full CRM built around it, sold to dealerships and to individual salespeople on month to month terms.

On the lead side you choose a territory around your store, and leads submitted inside that zone come to you and are not resold to three other dealerships. There are two families. Inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, which arrive as a mix of VIN specific inquiries and open shoppers describing what they want in general terms. And opt in seller leads from local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling their car. Nothing is filtered or scored. We ask pre screening questions at capture, deliver every submitted lead in your zone exclusively, and handle problems through post delivery replacement review rather than a quality claim made up front.

The CRM side is the whole working surface: lead inbox and distribution rules, SMS and MMS with threading, RCS with automatic SMS fallback, click to call with a VoIP softphone, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop, email with a real inbox and composer, bulk email, automations, follow up processes and drip campaigns, appointments and calendar, desking covering loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix, lead pages, personal salesperson websites, a free live chat widget, and three layers of reporting.

Two tools most dealers do not expect a CRM to include sit in there as well: an email validator and a phone validator, built in house, because bad contact data quietly destroys campaign performance and nobody sells you a fix for it.

Your database versus your market

The cleanest way to hold the difference in your head is that one product looks inward and the other looks outward.

An equity mining platform makes your owner base productive. It is at its best in a franchise store with a decade of sold customers, a busy service drive and manufacturer programs that reward loyalty conquests. The ceiling is the size and quality of your own records. A store with three years of history and a thin service department will not find much no matter how good the software is.

A lead platform makes your market productive. It is at its best when you need more conversations than your database can produce, when you are trying to grow share in a defined territory, or when you want to buy cars from consumers rather than at auction. The ceiling is your territory and your team's ability to work what arrives.

Worth saying plainly: LeadLocate is not an equity mining product that reads your DMS. We do not connect to a dealer management system to compute equity positions. What we do provide is the campaign machinery to run equity style outreach against the customer records you keep in our CRM, with vehicle detail on the profile and campaign, drip and automation tools to work it. That is a real capability and it is also a smaller claim than a dedicated equity platform makes. See CRM with equity mining for the honest scope of it.

Choose AutoAlert if

We would rather tell you this now than have you switch and switch back.

  • You are a franchise store or group with a large, mature owner base and years of deal history sitting unworked.
  • Your service drive is busy and you want opportunity alerts tied to what walks through it.
  • Your systems are well integrated and your data is clean enough for equity math to be trustworthy.
  • Manufacturer loyalty and conquest programs are a meaningful part of how you make money.
  • You already have lead sources you are happy with and demand is not your constraint.

If that describes you, an equity platform will probably outperform anything a lead vendor can sell you, and you should buy it.

Choose LeadLocate if

The case is strongest when several of these are true at once.

  • Fresh opportunity is the constraint, not sorting the customers you already know.
  • You want exclusive local leads rather than shared internet leads three stores are calling at the same time.
  • You are independent, used car focused, or a buy here pay here store where franchise equity programs do not apply.
  • You need vehicles as much as you need buyers, and you would rather buy from local owners than at auction. See vehicle acquisition software.
  • You want leads and the CRM from one vendor on one bill instead of stitching two together.
  • You do not have, or do not want to depend on, a DMS integration or an inventory feed. Neither is required.
  • Contract length matters to you and you want the freedom to leave if we stop earning it.

Running both, which is often the right answer

These are not mutually exclusive, and framing this as a choice is partly a habit of comparison pages rather than a real constraint. A franchise group can reasonably work its owner base with an equity platform and buy market demand and acquisition leads separately.

If you do run both, decide two things in advance. First, where the customer record of truth lives, because a customer worked from two systems gets contacted twice and notices. Second, how opt out status is shared, because a customer who unsubscribes in one platform must not be contacted from the other. That is a compliance problem and a trust problem, and it is the most common failure when a store adds a second outreach tool.

Practically, that usually means one system owns outbound messaging and the other feeds it. Decide which before either vendor sends its first campaign, not after the first complaint.

Questions to ask both vendors, including us

Take these into every demo. The answers separate vendors faster than any feature list.

What is the total monthly cost with every module I actually need, and what is the price at renewal? What is the contract length and the cancellation process? What exactly can I export if I leave, in what format, and does it include communication history? Who owns the customer data? What does implementation require from my team and how long before the first result? What integrations does it depend on, who maintains them, and what happens when the other vendor changes something? What does support look like at 6pm on a Saturday? If leads are included, are they exclusive to my store, how is my territory defined, and what happens when a lead is bad?

Write the answers down. Vendors comfortable being pinned down in writing tend to be the ones still worth having in year three. Ours are answered in the demo, and you can also just ask us directly whether we fit before sitting through anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LeadLocate an equity mining platform?

Not in the dedicated sense. We do not connect to the dealer management system you run in order to compute equity positions. We provide campaign, drip and automation tools to run equity style outreach against the customer records held in our CRM, which is a smaller claim than a dedicated equity product makes.

Can we use both AutoAlert and LeadLocate?

Yes, and for a franchise group it is often the sensible answer. Decide in advance which system owns outbound messaging and how opt out status is shared between them, because contacting a customer who unsubscribed elsewhere is both a compliance and a trust failure.

Do we need a DMS integration or an inventory feed for LeadLocate?

No. Neither is required, which is why brokers and individual salespeople can run on the platform. If you do have an inventory feed, Inventory Link can ingest it and advertise your actual vehicles.

Are the leads exclusive to our store?

Yes. You choose a territory around your store and leads submitted in that zone are delivered to you and not resold to other dealerships. Nothing is filtered or scored, and every submitted lead in your zone is delivered.

What does LeadLocate cost compared with an equity platform?

CRM Only starts at $199 per month and plans that include exclusive local leads start at $799, month to month. We will not quote a competitor's pricing, so verify theirs with the vendor and compare total cost including modules and renewal price.

Will either one increase our sales?

We cannot guarantee results and no honest vendor can, because that depends on your market, your inventory and your team. What we can do is show the platform running on your own lead flow and price it so staying is a monthly decision.
