vAuto Alternative for Car Dealerships

Start here: we do not sell live market pricing or appraisal valuation. If that is what you are replacing, read this before you book a demo with anyone.

vAuto is inventory management software: live market pricing, appraisal support, sourcing and merchandising for used vehicles. LeadLocate does not sell market pricing or appraisal valuation tools, so it is not a like for like swap. What we do supply is opt in seller leads for acquisition, inventory feed ingest and merchandising, and a full CRM with desking.

Let us be direct about what this page is

Most comparison pages bend the product to fit the search term. This one will not, because the categories genuinely do not line up and pretending otherwise wastes your afternoon.

vAuto sits in inventory management. Live market data, pricing recommendations, appraisal support, stocking guidance, auction sourcing and merchandising for used vehicles. It is a used car manager's tool and it lives in the world of turn, cost to market and days supply.

LeadLocate sits in lead generation, communication and desking, with an inventory side that handles feed ingest and merchandising rather than valuation. We do not sell live market pricing, appraisal valuation, auction sourcing or recon workflow software. If the pricing engine is what you are shopping to replace, we are not the answer and no salesperson here will tell you we are.

So why is this page here at all? Because a large share of dealers searching for an alternative are not actually unhappy with the pricing math. They are unhappy with what they are spending across a stack of vendors, and the real question underneath is where their next used car is coming from. That question has an answer we can speak to honestly, and it is the second half of this page.

Product scope and packaging change on both sides. Verify current capability and terms directly with the vendor rather than with any comparison page, including this one.

What vAuto is built for

vAuto is part of the Cox Automotive family and is widely used across franchise and larger independent stores. Its public reputation is built on applying live market data to used vehicle decisions: what a unit is worth relative to comparable listings in your market, how to price it as it ages, what to stock, and how to merchandise it once it is on the lot. Related products in the family address auction sourcing, new vehicle inventory and reconditioning workflow.

The value proposition is a discipline, not just a screen. Stores that run it well replace opinion with a number, and the number is refreshed constantly against what the market is doing rather than what the used car manager believed last month. For a high volume used operation, that is a real edge and it is the reason the category exists.

It also assumes some things about your store. You need inventory volume for market comparisons to mean much, you need a manager who will actually work the tool daily, and you generally need the data plumbing that comes with a larger operation. A twelve car a month store gets far less out of it, which is worth saying because plenty of small dealers buy it and never use it.

We have no visibility into anybody's current pricing or contract structure and will not guess. Ask them directly, and ask specifically what happens at renewal.

What LeadLocate is built for

We are a lead generation platform with a full CRM built around it, sold to dealerships and to individual salespeople on month to month terms, United States only.

On supply, you define a territory with the Leads Manager zone editor and leads inside it are delivered to you exclusively rather than resold to three other rooftops. Two families. Inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, arriving as a mix of VIN specific interest and open shoppers describing what they want. And opt in seller leads: local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted by a dealership about selling their car. Nothing is filtered or scored. We ask pre screening questions at capture, deliver every submitted lead in your zone, and handle problems through post delivery replacement review.

On inventory, My Inventory Link ingests your live feed with VIN, trim, mileage, price and photos, stores it, gives you a data manager to work with it, exposes a public inventory API with key provisioning, and drives per salesperson inventory sites from a template. That is merchandising and distribution, not valuation.

On working the opportunity, the CRM covers lead distribution with rules, SMS and MMS, RCS with SMS fallback, a click to call VoIP softphone with call recording and transcription, voicemail drop, email with domain authentication, a phone validator and an email validator, automations and follow up processes, appointments, DealTracker desking across loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix and trade credit caps, deal jackets, customer facing deal pages with e signature, document AI for VIN scanning, and three layers of reporting.

Choose vAuto if

Keep it, or buy it, if any of these describe your store. We would rather be useful than win a comparison we should not win.

  • Your pricing decisions are currently opinion based and your aged inventory is telling you so. A market data discipline fixes that and nothing on our platform does.
  • You retail enough used volume for market comparison to be statistically meaningful, and you have a used car manager who will work a tool every morning.
  • Auction sourcing is a core part of how you stock, and you want that decision supported by data rather than by a buyer's instinct.
  • Reconditioning time is your bottleneck and you need workflow visibility from arrival to front line ready.
  • Your group already standardizes on it across rooftops and the reporting consistency is worth more than the line item.

If any of those are true, the honest advice is to keep the pricing tool and look elsewhere for savings. Cutting the thing that sets your prices to save a subscription is a bad trade in almost every store we have seen.

Choose LeadLocate if

The case for us is about supply and follow up rather than valuation.

  • Your constraint is finding cars to buy, not knowing what to pay for them. Opt in seller leads put local owners who want a number in front of you inside a territory you define.
  • Your constraint is people to call. Exclusive local buyer leads solve a supply problem directly.
  • You are paying separately for a CRM, a lead source and a communications vendor, and you want fewer bills and one set of numbers.
  • You want texting, RCS, VoIP calling with transcription, voicemail drop and follow up automation in the same place your leads land.
  • You need desking that handles loan and lease correctly across states, including semimonthly frequency, trade credit caps and three lease tax methods.
  • You do not have or do not want to depend on a DMS connection or an inventory feed. Neither is required to operate, which is why brokers and individual salespeople run on the platform.
  • Contract length is a sticking point and you want month to month.

Plenty of stores run both, and that is often the right answer rather than a compromise.

The acquisition question underneath all of this

Here is the part worth reading even if you keep every vendor you have. The used car problem in most stores in the last few years has not been pricing sophistication. It has been supply, and every store bidding against every other store at the same auctions with the same data does not fix supply, it just distributes the shortage evenly.

The stores handling it best have built a second sourcing line that does not run through an auction lane. Buying from consumers directly. It is slower per unit, it takes phone work, and the cars come in one at a time. It also comes without a buy fee, without transport, and frequently at a cost that makes the unit worth retailing rather than wholesaling.

Two channels feed it. The first is your own database, which almost nobody works properly. Your customer records already hold vehicle detail, and the equity conversation with a customer you sold three years ago is the cheapest acquisition call in the building. The second is inbound offer requests: local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request on one of our landing pages and asked to be contacted. Those are the opt in seller leads in the Marketplace Acquisitions plan, delivered exclusively inside the zone you draw.

None of that replaces knowing what a car is worth. It changes where the cars come from. Our acquisition strategy page lays out the whole approach, and the acquisition software page covers the tooling side.

What to demand from any inventory vendor, even though we are not one

These questions are worth asking regardless of who you buy from, and we have watched dealers skip every one of them.

Ask where the market data comes from and how thin it gets on unusual units. Every market pricing product looks brilliant on a three year old midsize sedan and gets vague on a diesel dually with a plow package. Ask to see it on the units you actually struggle with, not on the demo car.

Ask what happens to the recommendation when your market is small. Rural stores routinely get comparison sets built from vehicles four hours away, and a price that is right for a different metro is not right for you.

Ask what data leaves your store, where it goes, and who else sees it. Aggregated market data is built out of dealer data, including yours, and you should understand that trade rather than discover it later.

Ask about exit, in writing, before you sign. What can you export, in what format, and can you run the export yourself. Your leverage is never higher than the moment before signature. The same question applies to us, and our data export checklist is written to be used with any vendor.

Finally, ask what the store has to do for the tool to work. Almost every failed inventory software purchase failed on adoption rather than on the software, and the vendor knows exactly which stores use it and which do not.

How to evaluate without disrupting anything

Because these are different categories, you do not have to choose and you should not do a rip and replace to find out.

If the acquisition question is what brought you here, test it directly. Take a defined territory, turn on seller lead flow for a month, and measure three things: how many owners you actually reached, how many appraisal appointments you set, and how many cars you bought. Compare the landed cost per unit against what the same car costs you at auction with fees and transport included. That comparison is the whole argument, and it is your numbers rather than ours.

If follow up is the real gap, run the CRM side on one team for three to four weeks and measure time to first response, touches per lead before the trail goes cold, and appointments set. Leave everything else alone so you can read the result.

Set the pass mark before you start. Deciding in advance what would make you say yes is the discipline that keeps a pilot from turning into an opinion.

We cannot guarantee how many cars you will buy, what they will cost, or what any of it sells for, and no vendor honestly can, because that depends on your market, your appraisal skill and how quickly your people call. What we can do is put the supply and the tracking in front of you and let your own numbers settle it. Call 844-376-2274 or use contact us and we will map a territory before you commit to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does LeadLocate replace vAuto?

No. We do not sell live market pricing, appraisal valuation, auction sourcing or reconditioning workflow, and we will not claim otherwise. We cover consumer acquisition supply, inventory feed ingest and merchandising, and the CRM, communication and desking layer around the deal.

Do you have any inventory tools at all?

Yes, on the merchandising and distribution side. My Inventory Link ingests your live feed, gives you a data manager, exposes a public inventory API with key provisioning, and drives per salesperson inventory sites. Document AI also handles VIN scanning. None of that is valuation.

How do seller leads compare to buying at auction?

Different economics rather than better ones. Consumer purchases come without a buy fee or transport and arrive one at a time, which means phone work. Run a month, compare your landed cost per unit against the same car at auction with fees included, and let your own numbers decide.

Are seller leads exclusive to our store?

Yes. You define a territory with the Leads Manager zone editor and offer requests submitted in that zone come to you rather than being resold to other dealerships. Nothing is filtered or scored, and lead problems go through post delivery replacement review.

Do we need an inventory feed or DMS access to use LeadLocate?

No, neither is required. That is why brokers, single point independents and individual salespeople run on the platform. If you do have a feed, Inventory Link can ingest it and advertise your actual vehicles.

Can we run both products?

Yes, and for a high volume used operation that is usually the sensible answer. Keep the pricing discipline where it is and add the supply and follow up layer separately. They do not overlap enough to be an either or decision.
