DealerOn vs LeadLocate: Dealer Software Comparison

These two are not really competitors. Knowing which half of the funnel is failing tells you which one to buy first.

DealerOn builds dealer websites and manages digital marketing. LeadLocate supplies exclusive local leads and the CRM that works them. One creates traffic, the other converts and follows up. This page compares them honestly so you can tell which half of your funnel is actually leaking before you spend money fixing the other one.

Two halves of one funnel, sold by two different kinds of company

A car deal has a long path in front of it, and the software market has split that path into pieces that are sold separately, usually without anyone explaining where the seam is.

The first half is attention. Getting found in search, getting clicked in paid media, giving the shopper a site fast enough and clear enough to keep them, merchandising the vehicle well enough to hold interest. This is a website and digital marketing job, and it is what DealerOn is known for in the market.

The second half is conversion and pursuit. What happens in the first five minutes after a form, a call or a text. How fast a human responds, how many times, on which channel, and whether the follow up survives past the third touch. This is CRM and lead management work, and it is what LeadLocate is built to do.

Very few dealers have both halves broken at once. Most have one that is roughly fine and one that is quietly costing them a car a week. Spending on the half that already works is the most common expensive mistake in dealership marketing, which is why the diagnosis section below matters more than the comparison table.

Packaging and capability change on both sides, so verify current specifics with each vendor rather than trusting any page, including this one.

What DealerOn owns

Publicly, DealerOn is a dealer website platform and digital marketing provider serving franchise and independent stores. That means the site itself, hosting, the inventory display and vehicle detail pages built from your feed, search engine optimization, and paid search and display management run as an agency service.

Judge that category on the things that actually matter in it. Mobile load time measured on a phone over cellular rather than showroom wifi. Whether vehicle detail pages present a car well when the photos are average, which they usually are. Whether your site search returns sensible results for a query a normal person types. Whether manufacturer program requirements are met, if you are a franchise point. And on the agency side, whether the management fee is disclosed separately from media spend, and whether reporting survives a hard question.

We are not going to characterize their pricing, contract terms or current certifications. Ask them, get it in writing, and treat any competitor page that quotes another company's prices with suspicion, including if it ever happens on ours.

What LeadLocate owns

LeadLocate is a lead generation platform with a full CRM built around it, sold month to month to dealerships and to individual salespeople. It does not build or host your main website and it is not an OEM compliant website provider. That boundary is real and we would rather state it in the third section than let you find it in month two.

On the lead side you map a territory around your store, and leads submitted inside that zone come to you exclusively rather than being resold to three stores at once. There are two families: inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, and opt in seller leads from local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling their car. Leads are a mix of VIN specific and open shoppers. Nothing is filtered or scored; we ask pre-screening questions at capture, deliver everything submitted in the zone, and handle problems by post delivery replacement review.

On the CRM side: lead distribution with rules and escalation, SMS and MMS, RCS with SMS fallback, a VoIP softphone with click to call, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop, a real email inbox and composer, bulk email, automations, follow up processes, drip campaigns, appointments and reminders, desking covering loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix, three reporting layers, an email validator and a phone validator, plus lead pages, personal salesperson websites, a free live chat widget and customer facing deal pages with e-signature. AutoMail adds IVR, call routing and forwarding on the inbound phone side.

Read that table as a division of labor rather than a scoreboard. Most of the rows are blank on one side because the two companies are not trying to do the same job.

Diagnose which half is leaking before you buy either

You can do this yourself in an afternoon with numbers you already have, and it is worth more than any demo.

Pull ninety days. Write down site sessions, unique leads created, and sold units from those leads. Then compute two ratios: sessions to leads, and leads to sold. Now compare each against the same ninety days a year ago.

If sessions fell and your conversion held, you have a traffic problem. That is a website and marketing conversation, and a CRM will not fix it. If sessions held and conversion fell, you have a site or form problem, which is also a website conversation. If both held but leads to sold fell, the leak is in pursuit, and no amount of new traffic will patch it. If everything held and you are simply not big enough, you need more sources rather than a rebuild.

Then run the test that embarrasses most stores. Submit a lead on your own site at 8:40pm on a Saturday using a phone number nobody at the store recognizes. Record when the first text arrives, when the first call arrives, and how many follow ups you get over the next fourteen days. The result of that one test decides more budgets correctly than any vendor comparison. What to expect from car sales leads covers how those shoppers behave once you do reach them.

Where the two genuinely overlap

There are three places these products touch, and it is worth knowing them so you do not pay twice.

Landing pages. Website vendors build campaign pages, and we have lead pages with per page URL settings that a manager can build without opening a support ticket. If your website vendor charges per page or takes a week to publish one, that is a real reason to run campaign traffic through lead pages instead. If they are fast and included, use theirs.

Chat. Most website packages include or resell a chat product. We include a free live chat widget that drops onto the site you already have and lands the conversation in the same inbox as texts and emails. Pick one and turn the other off, because two chat widgets on one page is a worse experience than none.

Inventory display. Inventory Link ingests your feed and publishes per salesperson inventory sites from a template. That is not a replacement for your main site's inventory pages, and it should not be sold to you as one. It exists so individual salespeople have something to send, and so stores without a feed are not blocked, because an inventory feed and a dealer management system connection are not required to run the platform.

Choose one, or choose both, on this basis

Put your money into the website and marketing side if your manufacturer requires a certified provider, your site is slow on a phone, your vehicle detail pages are thin, your organic footprint has been shrinking, or you have nobody accountable for a paid media budget. Those are real problems and they need a specialist. We are not one and we will say so.

Put your money into leads and CRM if your traffic is steady but your lead count is not converting, your response time on a weekend runs into hours, follow up dies after two touches, you are paying separately for shared internet leads that three other stores are calling, or your reporting cannot tell you which salesperson is actually working their pipeline.

Run both if you can, which is what most stores end up doing. Website vendor supplies the traffic and the site experience, we supply exclusive local leads, the conversion pages, the communication stack and the follow up. Website forms and chat post into the CRM, distribution rules assign them, escalation catches the ones nobody touched, and attribution tells you afterward which channel actually paid.

The cost comparison nobody puts in the deck

Compare these two on a full year, not a monthly sticker, and include the numbers neither vendor invoices.

On the website side that means platform and hosting, SEO retainer, media management fees as a percentage of spend, page or template change fees, and the cost of a rebuild in staff time. On our side it is simpler because pricing is published: CRM Only from $199 a month, Lead Data Only from $599, Inbound buyer leads from $799, Marketplace Acquisitions from $999, the Buyers and Sellers Hybrid Plan from $1,599, and Skip A Month at $199 for stores that want to pause. All month to month, US only, no long term contract. The pricing page has the current list.

Then the unbilled costs. Migration and downtime if you change website platforms, which can affect search rankings for a period. Adoption time if you change CRM, which realistically runs two to four weeks of reduced productivity. Overlap, because running with no overlap during a cutover is how stores lose leads.

What we cannot do is put a return figure on either side. We cannot guarantee lead counts, close rates or sales results, and any vendor in this market who does is selling you an outcome your customers control. What we can do is show you the product working on live lead flow: the recorded demo needs no sales call, and contact us if you want a straight answer about fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LeadLocate a replacement for DealerOn?

No. We do not build or host full dealer websites and we are not an OEM compliant website provider. We supply exclusive local leads plus the CRM, communication and follow up layer that works behind whatever site you run.

How do I know which one my store needs first?

Compare ninety days of sessions, leads and sold units against the same period last year. If traffic or site conversion fell, that is a website conversation. If leads to sold fell while traffic held, the leak is in pursuit and a new site will not fix it.

Can website forms and chat feed into LeadLocate?

Yes. Forms and chat post into the CRM where distribution rules assign by source and hour, escalation catches anything untouched, and automated follow up starts immediately regardless of who is logged in.

Do you build landing pages if our website vendor already does?

We include lead pages with per page URL settings that a manager can publish without a support ticket. If your website vendor is fast and does not charge per page, use theirs. Do not pay twice for the same thing.

Are your leads the same as the ones our website produces?

No. Ours are generated in a territory you define and delivered exclusively to you rather than resold. They are a mix of VIN specific and open shoppers, nothing is filtered or scored, and problems are handled by post delivery replacement review.

What will each one return on the money?

We cannot guarantee lead volume, close rates or sales results, and neither can any vendor in this market, because those depend on your inventory, your pricing and your people. Judge both on what you can verify: response time, follow up depth and appointments set.
