DealerCenter CRM vs LeadLocate
Two systems built from opposite starting points. Here is which problem each one was designed to solve, and how to tell which problem you actually have.
The two systems start from opposite ends of the store
This comparison confuses people because both products have the letters CRM attached, and that is where the similarity stops.
DealerCenter grew from the operational side of the independent dealership. It is a widely used platform in the independent and buy here pay here world, and its reputation rests on bundling the things a small store needs to run day to day into one login: inventory, deal processing, credit and financing workflow, and a CRM alongside them. For a used car store that wants one vendor for the whole operation, that bundle is genuinely appealing and it is why the product is as popular as it is.
LeadLocate grew from the demand side. It was built to generate leads and then to work them, which is why the CRM inside it is organized around communication and follow up rather than around deal paperwork. Lead management, texting, calling, email, automation, desking and reporting are the core, and exclusive local lead flow is available on the same bill.
So the honest framing is not which product is better. It is which half of the store is currently costing you money. If your deals are getting processed fine but leads sit unworked for six hours, one answer applies. If your follow up is disciplined but your operational paperwork is chaos, the other does.
Features and packaging change on both sides. Verify current capability, pricing and contract terms directly with the vendor rather than relying on any comparison page, including this one.
What DealerCenter is built for
Public positioning, stated plainly and without spin, because a comparison page that shades the competitor is not useful to anybody.
DealerCenter is aimed at independent and buy here pay here dealerships and covers a wide operational surface in a single system. Stores choose it because they want inventory, deal handling, financing workflow and customer records under one vendor and one invoice, and because it is built for the size and staffing of an independent lot rather than for a franchise group with a full time systems administrator.
That breadth is the product's argument. When one vendor holds the operational record, you are not reconciling three systems that each think they know the truth about a vehicle or a customer. For a two person office that matters more than any individual feature.
If your evaluation is really about the operational and dealer management side rather than the CRM, we have written about that separately at DealerCenter DMS alternative, and we will tell you there what we tell you here: we do not sell a dealer management system, so on that axis we are not a replacement.
What LeadLocate is built for
LeadLocate is a lead generation platform with a full CRM around it, sold to dealerships and to individual salespeople on month to month terms.
On the lead side, you pick a territory around your store and inbound leads inside that zone are delivered exclusively to you rather than resold to three other dealerships. There are two families. Inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, and opt in seller leads from local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling their car. Nothing is filtered or scored. We ask pre-screening questions at capture and deliver every submitted lead in the zone, and problems are handled by post-delivery replacement review rather than a quality claim made up front. The seller leads page covers the acquisition side.
On the CRM side: lead inbox and detail views, contacts and contact import, SMS and MMS with real threading, RCS with SMS fallback, a click to call dialer with a VoIP softphone, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop with recipient lists, email with a real inbox and composer, bulk email, automations and follow up processes, drip campaigns with an editor, appointments, reminders and a calendar, DealTracker desking covering loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix, deal jackets, lead pages, salesperson websites, a free live chat widget, and three layers of reporting.
Then the tools most dealers do not expect a CRM to have in house: an email validator, a phone validator, and document AI that reads documents and scans VINs from a phone camera.

Choose DealerCenter if
Real reasons to stay where you are, or to pick them over us. We would rather say this now than have you switch and switch back in eight months.
- You need dealer management functions in the same system: inventory accounting, deal processing into your books, and the operational record of the store.
- You are a buy here pay here operation where the financing and portfolio side is the business, not an accessory to it.
- You want one vendor and one invoice for the whole store and you are willing to trade some depth in any single area for that consolidation.
- Your team is already trained on it and your problem is process discipline rather than software. Changing systems does not fix a follow up problem, it just makes it visible.
- You already have lead sources that work and you do not need a vendor to supply lead flow.
Choose LeadLocate if
The case is strongest when several of these are true at once.
- Leads sit too long before the first touch, and you want automation, texting and calling in one place with the response time actually measured.
- You want leads and CRM from one vendor rather than paying a lead provider and a software vendor separately and making them talk.
- You want exclusive territory leads instead of shared internet leads that three stores are calling at the same minute.
- You want the acquisition side too. Opt in seller leads from local owners feed used car supply without an auction lane.
- Contract length matters to you and you want the freedom to leave if we stop earning it.
- You want individual salespeople able to run on the platform with their own site and their own pipeline, not just the store.
- You do not have, or do not want to depend on, a DMS connection or an inventory feed. Neither is required to operate.
The combination most stores actually end up with
Worth saying because the vs framing hides it: these two are not always an either or.
Plenty of independent stores keep an operational platform for inventory, deal processing and the financing side, and run LeadLocate as the demand and communication layer on top. That works because we do not require a connection to the dealer management system you run. The platform operates independently, which means you are not waiting on an integration project or paying an interface fee to get started.
The trade off is real and you should hear it from us. Running two systems means a customer record can exist in both, and somebody has to decide which one is the source of truth for what. Our answer in practice is simple: the communication and pipeline record lives with us, the operational and accounting record lives with the platform that owns your books. If you want to think that through properly, DMS and CRM integration and automotive CRM with DMS integration both address the data question directly, including where our depth stops.
What a switch or an addition really costs
The subscription difference is usually the smallest number in a change like this. The costs that hurt are the ones nobody quotes.
- Data. Establish what you can export, in what format, and whether communication history comes with it, before you give any notice. Your leverage is never higher than the moment before you sign or the moment before you renew.
- Overlap. Plan on paying two vendors for a few weeks. Cutting over with no overlap is the most reliable way to lose leads during a transition.
- Adoption. Expect a productivity dip for two to four weeks while habits reset. This is the real cost and it is management attention, not training hours.
- Integrations. Every third party posting into your current system has to be repointed. Website forms, third party providers, chat, phone. Build the list before you start.
- Reporting continuity. Pull the historical reports you will want to compare against next year while you still have access to them.
Our CRM migration checklist works through this in order and is written to be used with any vendor.
How to decide in thirty days instead of arguing about it
Demos flatter every product. A pilot does not.
Take one team, or one slice of your lead flow, and run it on the new platform for three or four weeks while everything else stays where it is. Measure three things against the same period on your current system: time to first response, number of follow up touches before the trail goes cold, and appointments set. Those three tell you more than any feature comparison, including the table above.
Month to month pricing exists so this is possible. A vendor that requires a long commitment before you can evaluate is asking you to carry a risk they will not. If you want to see the system working before you talk to anyone, the demo is the fastest route, and contact us if you would rather just ask directly whether we fit. We will tell you when we do not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is LeadLocate a replacement for DealerCenter?
For lead management, communication, follow up and desking, it covers the same ground. For dealer management functions such as inventory accounting and deal processing into your books, it is not a replacement, because we do not sell a dealer management system.
Can we run both systems at once?
Yes, and many independent stores do. The platform runs independently of your operational system, so there is no integration project to wait on. Decide up front which system is the source of truth for which record.
Does LeadLocate include leads or just software?
Both are available. CRM Only starts at $199 a month if you have your own lead sources. Plans that include exclusive local leads start at $799, and the hybrid buyer and seller plan starts at $1,599. See the pricing page.
Are the leads exclusive to my store?
Yes. You choose a territory around your store and leads inside that zone are delivered to you and not resold to other dealerships. Nothing is filtered or scored, and every submitted lead in the zone is delivered.
Do we need a DMS connection or an inventory feed?
No. Neither is required, which is why brokers and individual salespeople can run on the platform. If you do have a feed, My Inventory Link can ingest it and advertise your actual vehicles.
What about credit applications and F&I?
SecureWebX handles secure online credit applications, shareable apply links, document collection, identity verification at intake, a compliance module with versioned consent, worksheets and eFax. It does not do eContracting, lender portal submission or menu selling with product rating.
Test it on one team for thirty days
We will map a territory around your store, show the CRM working on real lead flow and give you a straight number. Month to month, so staying is your decision every month.
