CarNow Alternative for Car Dealerships

A straight comparison, including the reasons to stay exactly where you are.

Dealers look for a CarNow alternative when they want the lead source, the CRM and the follow up in one system instead of a digital retailing tool bolted to a separate CRM. LeadLocate is a lead generation platform with a full CRM built in, sold month to month. Whether it is the right swap depends on how much of your process runs on the vehicle detail page.

Name the reason you are shopping before you shop

Almost every search for an alternative starts with a specific irritation, and the irritation is worth writing down. In our experience the reasons split four ways, and only three of them are solved by changing vendors.

You are paying several vendors to do overlapping work. One for chat, one for digital retailing, one for the CRM, one for leads. Each renewal arrives separately and nobody can tell you which one produced last month's units. Consolidating is a real reason to look.

The tool produces activity, not appointments. Plenty of engagement on the site, plenty of started deals, and a sales log that has not moved. Usually this is a follow up problem downstream of the tool rather than the tool itself, which matters because switching will not fix it by itself.

You need leads, not just conversion of the traffic you already have. A digital retailing product makes existing traffic work harder. It does not create new shoppers. If your problem is volume rather than conversion, no amount of on site tooling solves it.

Contract and price structure. Term length, renewal increases, or modules you pay for and never turned on. Always a legitimate reason to look.

What CarNow is built for

CarNow is known in the automotive market as a digital retailing and on site engagement platform. Its core idea is that the vehicle detail page on a dealer website should be able to carry a real conversation and the start of a real deal rather than a form. Publicly it is associated with live messaging on dealer sites, payment and trade interaction, and moving a shopper from browsing toward a structured deal without leaving the page.

That is a genuinely useful thing to be good at, and if your store already has strong website traffic, that traffic is the cheapest audience you will ever talk to. A product whose whole job is converting it deserves consideration on its own terms.

We are not going to publish a feature list or pricing for another vendor. Packaging, integrations and terms change, sometimes quarterly. Verify current capability, pricing and contract length directly with CarNow rather than trusting any comparison page, including this one.

What LeadLocate is built for

LeadLocate comes at the dealership from the other end. It is a lead generation platform with a full CRM built around it, sold to dealerships and to individual salespeople on month to month terms.

On the lead side you pick a territory around your store, and leads inside that zone are delivered to you rather than resold to three other dealerships. There are two families. Inbound buyer leads from in market shoppers, and opt in seller leads from local owners who filled out a vehicle offer request and asked to be contacted about selling. Nothing is filtered or scored. Every submitted lead in your zone is delivered exclusively, and problems are handled by post delivery replacement review rather than by a quality promise made up front.

On the software side you get lead management with distribution rules, SMS and MMS threading, RCS with automatic SMS fallback, a click to call dialer with a VoIP softphone, call recording with transcription, voicemail drop, email with a real inbox and composer, bulk email, automations and follow up processes, drip campaigns, appointments and reminders, and desking covering loan and lease with a fifty state tax matrix, semimonthly frequency, trade credit caps and three lease tax methods.

The customer facing pieces overlap most with what a digital retailing product does. Lead pages with per page URL settings, personal salesperson websites, a free live chat widget for the site you already run, and customer facing deal pages with electronic signature so a shopper sees their own numbers on a link instead of a photograph of a worksheet. On the F&I side, SecureWebX handles secure credit applications and shareable apply links you can text.

Choose CarNow if

We would rather tell you this now than have you switch and switch back in five months. Stay put, or choose them over us, if these describe your store.

  • Your website traffic is already strong and your gap is converting it, not finding more shoppers.
  • Digital retailing on the vehicle detail page is central to how you sell, and your team has built process around it that is working.
  • Your OEM has program requirements or co op rules that involve your on site retailing tool, and compliance affects your money.
  • You already have a CRM you like and are not looking to change it.
  • Your website vendor integration is deep and rebuilding it would cost more than the irritation is worth.

If most of that list is true, the honest recommendation is to keep the tool and fix the follow up behind it, which is almost always the cheaper repair.

Choose LeadLocate if

The case is strongest when several of these are true at once.

  • You want leads and the CRM from one vendor on one bill instead of stitching four products together.
  • Traffic volume is your constraint. You need shoppers, not a better button on the ones you have.
  • You want the acquisition side too. Opt in seller leads from local owners who asked to be contacted are how a lot of stores are sourcing used inventory now.
  • You are independent or a used car operation and enterprise franchise surface area is something you pay for and never use.
  • You want individual salespeople to be able to run on the platform, with their own site and their own leads.
  • Contract length is a sticking point and you want the freedom to leave if we stop earning it.
  • You do not have, or do not want to depend on, a DMS connection or an inventory feed. Neither is required to operate.

What a change actually costs, beyond the invoice

The subscription difference is usually the smallest number involved. The costs that hurt are the ones nobody quotes.

  1. Website work. Anything embedded in your vehicle detail pages has to be removed and replaced. Find out who does that work and what it costs before you give notice.
  2. Data. Conversations, submitted deals and customer records. Ask specifically what you can export, in what format, and whether communication history comes with it.
  3. Overlap. Plan on paying two vendors for a few weeks. Cutting over with no overlap is the most common way stores lose leads during a change.
  4. Adoption. The real cost. Expect a dip for two to four weeks while people relearn habits, and budget management attention rather than training hours.
  5. Reporting continuity. Pull the reports you will want to compare against next year while you still have access to them.

Our CRM migration checklist works through this in order and is written to be used with any vendor.

A safer way to evaluate than a rip and replace

You do not have to bet the store to find out. Pilot instead of switching.

Run one team, or one slice of lead flow, on the new platform for three or four weeks while everything else stays exactly where it is. Measure three things against the same period on your current stack: time to first meaningful contact, number of follow up touches before the trail goes cold, and appointments shown. Those three tell you more than any demo will.

Month to month pricing exists so this is possible. A vendor that requires a multi year commitment before you can evaluate is asking you to carry a risk they are not willing to carry. If the pilot goes badly you have lost a month and learned something specific. If it goes well you expand with evidence.

Questions to put to both vendors, including us

Take these into every demo. The answers separate vendors faster than any feature grid.

What is the all in monthly cost with every module I actually need, and what is the renewal price? What is the term and what is the cancellation process? Exactly what can I export if I leave, in what format, and does it include conversation history? Who owns the customer data? What has to be changed on my website, and who does that work? What does support look like at six on a Saturday evening? If leads are included, are they exclusive to my store and how is the territory drawn? What happens when a lead is bad?

Write the answers down. Vendors comfortable being pinned down in writing tend to be the ones still worth having in year three. Ours are answered live on the demo, and you can contact us if you would rather just ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LeadLocate a direct replacement for CarNow?

Not feature for feature. We cover the conversation, the deal numbers and the follow up with a live chat widget, customer facing deal pages with e-signature and desking, but we are not a website platform and our on site retailing surface is different. Compare the specific pieces you rely on.

Does LeadLocate include leads, or only software?

Both are available. CRM Only starts at $199 a month if you already have your own sources. Plans that include exclusive territory leads start at $799, and buyer plus seller programs start at $1,599.

Do we have to change website vendors?

No. The chat widget, lead pages and salesperson sites work alongside the site you already run. We do not sell a primary dealership website and we are not an OEM compliant website provider.

Can a customer see and sign their deal online?

Yes. Customer facing deal pages show the numbers produced by the desking engine and support electronic signature. Credit applications and shareable apply links are handled through SecureWebX.

Do you integrate with our DMS?

No connection is required to operate, which is why brokers and individual salespeople can run on the platform. If you have an inventory feed, My Inventory Link can ingest it and publish your vehicles.

Can we run both systems during a transition?

Yes, and we recommend a period of overlap. Removing an embedded tool from your vehicle detail pages takes coordination with your website vendor, so plan that work before the cutover date rather than after it.
