How to Add More Than One Vehicle to a Lead
Customers rarely want one car. They want the SUV, the cheaper SUV if the payment runs high, and the truck their spouse keeps mentioning. Keep every vehicle of interest on the lead, each on its own line, and desk whichever one wins.
Step by Step
Open the lead
Click Leads in the main menu and open the customer's lead. The vehicle the customer asked about sits on the first vehicle line in the lead detail, with fields for the vehicle, the VIN and the odometer.
Click the plus button on the first line
At the end of the first vehicle line is a plus button. Click it and a small menu opens with two choices: For Sale, for another vehicle the customer is interested in, and Trade-In, for a vehicle they are bringing to you.
Choose For Sale
A new numbered line opens under the first. Each line now carries a tag, For Sale 1, For Sale 2 and so on, so everyone who opens the lead reads the options in the same order.
Fill the new line
Type the year, make, model and trim, or click the inventory button on that line to pick the unit from your store's Inventory, which fills the vehicle and its details for you. Add the VIN and odometer if you have them. The line saves as you type.
Add a third vehicle
Click the plus button on the first line again and choose For Sale. The plus button always stays on the first line, so it is in the same place every time, and when the lead reaches its maximum a short tip tells you so.
Start a deal on any vehicle
Each line has its own Start a Deal button, which opens a new deal in Desking with this customer and that line's vehicle already filled in. Once a deal exists, the same spot shows Go to Deal and takes you straight to it.
Remove a vehicle the customer ruled out
Click the red X at the end of a second or later line. The lines below it move up, and any deal already started on that vehicle stays exactly as it was.
What do you need before you start?
You need a lead open in LeadLocate CRM. The first vehicle line usually already holds the unit the customer asked about, filled in from the lead source or typed by whoever took the call. Everything else happens on the lead itself: there is no separate screen for vehicle options and nothing to set up first.
Picking from inventory works best when your store's vehicles are in the CRM. Inventory from Inventory Link shows in the Inventory menu and in the picker on every vehicle line, so a second option is two clicks away instead of a VIN typed from the lot. A vehicle you do not stock can still go on a line: type it, or decode it by VIN in the picker.
Why keep more than one vehicle on a lead?
Because buyers cross shop, and the vehicle that sells is often not the one they first asked about. A customer who came in on a loaded SUV may drive home in the trim below it when the lender comes back with a smaller approval, or in the used one on the back row when the payment matters more than the model year. When the lead holds one vehicle, the salesperson overwrites it every time the conversation moves, and the history of what the customer considered is gone.
With several lines, nothing gets erased. The manager opening the lead sees every vehicle the customer is weighing, the BDC following up knows which three units to mention, and when financing falls through on the first choice, the second is already on the record with its own deal button. The same record answers the question every sales meeting asks: what was this customer actually shopping?

What should you see when it works?
The lead shows numbered For Sale lines, one per vehicle, each with its own vehicle, VIN and odometer fields, its inventory button and its own deal button. The plus button sits on the first line. Lines two and up carry a red X to remove them. Trade-in lines sit below a dotted divider, with a VIN lookup on each.
Everything saves as you type, so a manager who opens the same lead a minute later sees the new vehicle without anyone clicking save. On the LeadLocate phone app, the same vehicle lines appear on the lead with the inventory picker, so a salesperson on the lot can add the unit the customer just sat in.
Quick checks
Use the inventory button for units you stock. A picked unit carries its real details, which makes the text you send and the deal you start accurate from the first message.
Put the customer's own car on a Trade-In line. The plus menu adds a Trade-In line for the vehicle they are bringing in, with a VIN lookup that fills the details. How to capture a trade-in covers photos and payoff when the deal gets serious, and vehicle acquisition leads explains how stores turn more of those trades into inventory.
A unit on its way from another store goes on a line too. In the picker, decode the VIN or describe the vehicle and add it to the For Sale line. To bring it home, get vehicle transport quotes from carriers in Inventory Link.
Removing a line never touches a deal. Clear the vehicles the customer ruled out freely; any deal started on one stays in Desking.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I track multiple vehicles per customer in the CRM?
Add them to the lead. Click the plus button on the first vehicle line, choose For Sale, and each vehicle gets its own numbered line with its own inventory picker and its own deal button.
Can I start a deal on the second vehicle instead of the first?
Yes. Every vehicle line has its own Start a Deal button, which opens a deal in Desking with that line's vehicle and this customer already filled in.
What happens to a deal if I remove that vehicle from the lead?
Nothing. Removing a vehicle line takes it off the lead and moves the lines below it up, and any deal already started on that vehicle stays in Desking as it was.
Can I add the customer's trade-in the same way?
Yes. The same plus button offers Trade-In, which adds a trade-in line below the vehicles of interest with a VIN lookup that fills in the vehicle.
Every vehicle your customer is weighing, on one lead
LeadLocate CRM keeps each vehicle of interest on its own line with its own inventory pick and its own deal, so nothing gets erased when the conversation moves. See it in the pre-recorded demo or start month to month.
