Dealership Data Enrichment Services
An honest look at appended data, what it can and cannot do for a dealer database, and the cheaper work most stores skip first.
Two different products share the same name
When a dealer says enrichment, they usually mean one of two things, and the vendors selling into that phrase are not selling the same product at all.
The first is appended attributes. You send a file of customers to an outside provider and get back additional fields: a current phone, a household indicator, an estimated vehicle in the driveway, a credit band. This is a purchased data product, priced per record, and its usefulness depends entirely on the provider's match rate and freshness.
The second is repair and completion of what you already hold. Deduplicating three records for the same household, removing disconnected numbers, correcting bounced email addresses, filling in the vehicle a customer actually owns, and attaching the consent record to the person it belongs to. This is not a data purchase, it is hygiene work, and it is almost always the cheaper win.
Most stores go shopping for the first when their real problem is the second. Appending fresh attributes onto a database that has four versions of the same customer and no consent record does not make the database better. It makes it larger, and it makes the duplicate problem more expensive.
Where we stand, plainly
So there is no ambiguity later in the page: LeadLocate does not sell a data append service. We do not resell consumer attribute files, we do not offer household or credit attribute appends, and we do not de-anonymize website traffic. If purchased attributes are what you are shopping for, you need a data provider, and you should evaluate one on its own merits and its own compliance posture.
We do store consumer data, and we are clear about that. Customer records live in the CRM with encrypted personally identifiable information, and the privacy policy describes what is held. Nothing about the platform depends on buying outside attributes.
What we sell is the platform where the record lives and the tooling that keeps it usable: validation, capture, document reading, one profile per customer, and consent handling. That covers most of what a store actually needs enrichment for, and it costs less than a per record file. The rest of this page is about that work, with the specific tools named so you can evaluate them rather than take our word for it. CRM data cleanup covers the project side.
What actually degrades a dealership database
Four forces, running constantly, and none of them are fixed by adding fields.
Time. People change numbers, change email providers, move, and change vehicles. A database is a photograph, and it ages from the moment it is taken. A five year old customer file is meaningfully wrong regardless of how clean it was on the day it was captured.
Capture. A salesperson typing a customer's email into a form on a phone in a parking lot produces a certain error rate, and nobody checks it. Bad data enters faster than any cleanup project removes it, which is why capture is the higher leverage fix.
Fragmentation. The same customer exists as a lead, a sold record, a service record and a texting contact. Each fragment holds part of the truth and none holds all of it. Reporting built on fragments is fiction.
Silent failure. A bounced email is a signal, and in most stores it goes nowhere. A disconnected phone number is a signal, and it sits in the record for four years being dialed by three different people.
Validation is the enrichment that pays first
Two tools most dealers do not know a CRM can carry in house, and they are the highest return work you can do on an existing database.
The phone validator checks numbers before you spend team hours or messaging cost on them. Dialing dead numbers is expensive in a way that never shows on an invoice: it costs your BDC's morning, and it corrupts every connection rate you report. Cleaning the numbers first changes what your reporting means.
The email validator does the same on the email side, and it protects something more fragile than time. Send a campaign into a list full of dead addresses and you damage your sending reputation, which then reduces delivery to the good addresses. One careless blast can cost you months of deliverability. Validate before you send, every time, not once a year.
Alongside those sits email domain authentication, so mail from your store is recognized as coming from your store. Authentication is not glamorous and it is not optional if you intend to email at volume. Together these three do more for a stale database than any purchased file, and they run inside the platform rather than as a separate invoice.
Fix capture before you fix the database
Cleanup is a project. Capture is a system. If you only do the project, you will do it again next year.
Lead pages give a campaign its own landing destination with its own URL settings, and pre screening questions at capture collect what you actually need from the consumer in their own words. That is the cleanest data you will ever get, because it comes from the person rather than from a rep retyping it.
Apply links from SecureWebX are shareable application URLs a store can text or put on a site, so a customer completes a secure credit application themselves. Identity verification runs at intake. Nothing is retyped, and the consent that comes with it is captured in the same act.
Document AI reads documents and scans VINs, which removes the other big source of typos. A driver license or an insurance card read from an image beats a rep transcribing seventeen characters into a phone. VIN scanning does the same for vehicles, in the lot, in seconds.
Every one of these reduces the volume of bad data entering the system, which is the only version of enrichment that compounds. See online credit applications for the intake side.
One customer profile instead of five partial ones
The single highest value structural change in most stores is not a data purchase. It is collapsing the fragments.
The platform holds a master customer profile with encrypted personally identifiable information, and vehicle detail sits on the record with multiple slots, so the car a customer owns, the car they are considering and the car they are trading are all on one person rather than in three systems. Role based permissions control who sees what, so a service advisor gets what they need without seeing sales gross.
Consent and opt out status live on the profile too, which is the part people forget. A customer who unsubscribes from service marketing should not then receive a sales text, and the only way to be sure of that is a single record. Fragmented data is a compliance problem before it is a marketing problem.
Contact import and blacklist import handle bringing existing files in, including suppression lists, so a cleanup does not lose the do not contact history you already built. Trash bin and history views mean a deletion is recoverable rather than final, which matters when a cleanup goes further than intended. Data governance covers the policy layer.
Compliance is the reason to be careful about appends
Purchased consumer data is not free of obligation, and dealers occasionally discover this the expensive way.
An appended phone number is not consent to call or text it. Contact permission is a separate thing from contact information, and buying the second does not create the first. Before any campaign runs against appended records, you need to know where the consent came from, when, and whether you can produce evidence of it later.
Financing campaigns carry an additional layer. Fair lending rules forbid narrowing a credit related audience by age, gender, income, marital status, household size, education, language or ZIP, which rules out a lot of what an attribute file makes technically possible. The fact that a targeting option exists does not make it lawful to use.
The compliance module in SecureWebX handles versioned consent with a terms gate, and the record is retained rather than assumed. That is the piece that matters when someone asks you to produce the consent for a message you sent nineteen months ago. Our pages on FTC Safeguards and texting compliance go deeper on each.
None of this is legal advice. Run your program past your own counsel.
How to run a database cleanup that sticks
A practical sequence, in the order that produces the most result for the least effort.
- Freeze the inflow first. Turn on validation at capture and fix the two or three forms that generate most of your bad records. Cleaning while the tap runs is a treadmill.
- Deduplicate on a defined rule. Write the matching rule down before you start, and keep the merge log. Undoing a bad merge is much harder than avoiding one.
- Validate phones and emails across the whole file, and mark rather than delete. A number that fails validation is a record you stop dialing, not a customer you lose.
- Reconcile suppression and opt outs before anything sends. Import the blacklist, confirm it applied, and test it with a known record.
- Only then consider an append, and only for a defined segment with a defined campaign behind it. Appending the whole database because it is priced per record is how stores spend money on rows they will never contact.
Reporting across activity, company and management views tells you whether the cleanup held. Run the same report ninety days later. If the bad data is back, the capture fix did not take, and that is where the next round of work belongs. Pricing starts at $199 a month on CRM Only, month to month; see pricing or contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does LeadLocate sell data enrichment or append services?
No. We do not resell consumer attribute files, we do not offer household or credit attribute appends, and we do not de-anonymize website traffic. We provide phone and email validation, capture tooling, document reading and a single customer profile.
What is the highest return enrichment work for a dealership?
Validating phones and emails, then collapsing duplicate records into one customer profile. Both are cheaper than a purchased file and both improve every number you report afterward, because your denominators stop being wrong.
Can I import my existing database and suppression list?
Yes. Contact import brings records in and blacklist import brings your do not contact list with them, so a migration does not lose suppression history. Test it against a record you know is suppressed before you send anything.
Does an appended phone number mean we can call or text it?
No. Contact information and contact permission are separate. Consent has to come from somewhere you can evidence later. Talk to your own counsel before running any campaign against purchased records.
How does document reading help data quality?
It removes retyping, which is where most errors enter. Document AI reads documents and scans VINs, so a license, an insurance card or a seventeen character VIN gets captured from an image rather than typed on a phone in a lot.
Do we need a DMS integration for any of this?
No. No DMS integration and no inventory feed are required to operate the platform, which is why the cleanup and capture work can start before any integration project is scoped.
